Searching?

I get a scary page saying I'm trying to access an admin function when I hit the search button (ok, it's not that scary). Is this turned off on the site?

Ya, it's turned off except for community supporters. Havign it turned on for everyone did Bad Things to the boards.

Can a non-supporter take 20 on that function?

It's not as elegant as the vBulletin feature, but I recommend downloading the Google toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com/) for Internet Explorer. It has a handy 'search only on this domain' function (example: search only on http://enworld.cyberstreet.com).

Moderators: feel free to delete/edit this post if this is seen as disrupting the community supporter program. Not trying to undermine the effort, just pointing out an alternative.

Ahhhh... OK.

I recommend putting this somewhere obvious, like on the page that you get when hitting the search button or in the FAQ (I think I checked there for something like this, if I missed it, pass me a clue fish).

There was a page that popped up when I hit search before registering, but I have to admit that I skimmed it thinking I just had to register to get the functionality.

Thanks.

That is a pretty good idea, except that the google toolbar is spyware. I will never install this on my computer.

I'm sorry, but that is just ignorant. A search engine like google depends on rating the usefulness of websites. This data is gained through tracking your use of the google toolbar. This is explicitly explained on their site before they even let you download the plug-in. Google has, from the beginning, been completely up front about the collection of statistical data from using their toolbar, and even offer a 'lite' version that does not collect any such data from you, albiet at the expense of some of the niftier features being disabled.

Caution when using add-ons is a good thing, but there are a few justifiable and useful applications of information tracking, this is one of them.

EN World only has a PageRank of 5/10, according to Google. It says the PageRank is "Google's measure of the importance of the page."

Obviously it's not MY measure! :(
