When I read about the new Savage Tide Adventure Path, I was entranced. What could be better than an adventure that includes both pirates and demons? I needed a ship which could be both docked and sailing, as well as be easily modified to act as multiple ships. I thought back to a website I had seen which advertised paper terrain featuring a particularly impressive looking ship. I returned to the site and decided to splurge the fifteen dollars to look at the plans for this ship. Once I looked, I gathered the materials, and never looked back.
The next three weeks were a blur as I spent two to four hours every night working on the Maiden of the Seas, for a total of about forty hours of work. The required materials were either already at my house or were cheaply obtained. The largest cost was going through a good portion of a full cartridge of ink for my printer. All told, it cost me sixty dollars (including the plans from World Works Games, paper, ink, glue, ruler, transparencies, and sharpie marker) to put together this ship, and honestly it is the best forty hours and sixty dollars I've ever spent on a gaming product. Note that the materials cost quote is just for the cost of materials used. I still have leftover paper, ink, transparencies and glue, so I pro-rated that in my cost estimate. I plan on reusing this ship in this campaign, furthering its value even more!
The size of this ship is impressive, and when I revealed it to my gaming group when they went down to the harbor to find the Blue Nixie, their faces said it all. The Maiden of the Seas was a hit, and the fact that the combat could span multiple decks simultaneously on the same table made it all the better. Exploration of the ship was nice as the way the decks are laid out; I only had to reveal the sections my players had explored. The removable walls for the hull section of the ship also add to the reuse as it allows you to reconfigure the ship to your needs quickly and easily.
If you have need of a ship for your campaign, there is no better product than this. A modest time and money investment will give you a beautiful looking scale ship that was made for and will stand up to play. What's more is, you've already paid for the plans, so you can make as many as you want! Also, with a little work you can alter the ship to make bigger and or smaller versions.
All in all this is truly beautiful centerpiece that will visually stun your players and set a great tone for your campaign. Once you've completed your Maiden of the Seas, you'll be headed back to the World Works Game site looking for more products that will fit all of your campaign needs.
