First Post
It just occured to me that fourth ed could be collectible card based.

skill cards, feat cards, power cards, base attack cards!!! Monster cards, Spell Cards! The core rulesbooks and mountains of cards!!!!

It all over we dont have a prayer!!!

this must be kept from those at WotC for if this information fell into the wrong hands... who knows what might happen... it may already be too late...

Okay. Calm down. We've gone over this very idea a few times. If 4e is a collectible rpg, the most likely think to happen is the various ogl companies keep cranking out 3/3.5e material and probably kill 4e.

Wizards has the ability to do away with the OGL though right?

No. Wizards can do away with the d20 System Trademark, but the "d20 rules" as laid down in the System Reference Document by the terms of the Open Gaming License are free and open for ever and ever, amen.

Therefore, any thing ever released as Open Gaming Content is like toothpaste squeezed fromthe tube. That's why companies try to be as careful as possible when naming open and closed content in their books.

As for 4th edition: The Collecting, I doubt it'd happen, for the reasons Greatwyrm says. That, and there are still quite a few RPGamers left at Wizards, despite the perception. :)

There's a rumor that 4th edition will only be available in an online format, and it is going to follow an MMORPG model. Initial access to each document (book) will cost $50, but will also require a hefty monthly user fee (supposedly $15/month) to maintain access to the game documents. The 4.01, 4.02, 4.03, etc revisions will come out in rapid succession, yet be entirely incompatible with the previous version, forcing gamers to download the newest version on at least a weekly basis, or wind up left in the dust. The players will still have to print all the docs themself, but at least they'll be available in both a color and b&w printer-friendly version.

;)
