RPG Print News – Troll Lord Games, Melsonia Arts Council, and More

A town and surrounding lands designed by Gary Gygax is back in print for Castles & Crusades. There is also a new adventure and Troika! also has an adventure focused on a kidnapping demon bird named THOG. A deck of insult cards is out for Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition and related RPGs. There are also supplements for Forbidden Lands, Into the Odd, Savage Worlds, and MÖRK BORG. Plus the Cypher System has modern magic including a centaur barista and a magic coffee shop campaign setting. At first I thought it was a centaur ballista, but I read too fast.

Note: RPG Print News covers recent RPG releases and some classics, reprints, and sales available from retailers. It does not cover products that are available directly to customers only through Kickstarter or as print on demand.

Huh? The book is purposely hard to use and I probably risk a chance of ripping stuff?

Artpunk might have gone to far this time. The premise of the book sounds fun but adventures at some point are about usability function over fasion. Also spending the extra hours on fine tunning the adventure versus the presentation is probably makes for a better game experience.

But can we go further? Give me a book with matte black pages with glossy black words that you can kind of read by moving it in the light. Give me an adventure that is written on a 24 by 36 framed black velvet painting of a unicorn where the words are written in special ink and only appear under a black light. Give me an adventure that looks like a pack of cigarettes, but when you unroll the cigarettes each has a part of the adventure inside. Make the adventure a rotary dial phone it's more retro than even cassettes.

Heck with that, how about the whole adventure is written in Morse code and all interactions with the GM have to use the telegraph key it comes with? If that sells we can try semaphore flag campaigns and adventure paths using heliographs next.

The steampunk crowd might actually go for that, now that I think about it.

Any news on the rest of the Castle Zagyg lineup? Are they updating the whole line (including previously published volumes) to the new Reforged ruleset?

Torn open isn't a great description from my experience with the book. You bend them slightly and then come apart. The author spent the time fine tunning the adventure and it shows. The artists spent the time on the presentation and it shows. It's a great looking book and from a reading point of view a great adventure. We'll see how it goes when I get it to the table.

... To answer my own question. Troll Lord's have said Castle Zagyg Yggsburgh "will eventually be updated, but for now, you can get it exactly as it appeared in 2008." So I'll wait for the updated version when they roll out the full Castle Zagyg line.
