Hello all, new member & first time poster here!
I've dabbled in various PNP roleplaying systems over the past few years (translation: read them for ideas, never actually played) and have recently decided to stretch a bit by actually writing some things (orrrrr at least set up some plans). As this is a totally 'single-player' experiment, the DM is... BrOkEn.
The writing concept is a mix of race-to-ascension (maybe?), (demi) god fic, god mode Sue, etc. Just want to have fun.
I thought that I would present some of my ideas and see if you all experts can provide some advice and answers!
In-character history:
- Born and lived around the time of Karsus; attended his school, helped with the development of Karsus's avatar, etc. Acted as understudy/invisible aide type of person (like an intern whose professor steals all his work but does not honestly care).
- Developed own epic spells; one of the highest level ones caught the attention of Mystryl. Dream/avatar communication. Foresight of impending disaster. Plot McGuffins! Because!
- Used the normal death (resurrectable = yes) and burning (permament removal) of personal spell slots for lauching of spiritual self through various planes/universes/dimensions/etc. Starting at level 0 spell slots for relatively short 'hops' and ending up with the last of the level 9 slots for massive 'hops'.
- Each 'hop' requires a reincarnation, spell slot burning and automatic (or manual?) self-sacrifice (or will happen unless auto-res epic spell not put in place?).
- Last stop/hop has the character ending up with ONLY being able to cast epic spells, but has a general understanding/memory of old spells saw, read about, studied, etc. The sending/exile epic spell has finished its route.
- Final stop/dimension is essentially isolated: no extra-planar contact, summoning, transportation, etc, other than within its own cluster of realities (far, FAR away from anything D&D related).
- No material goods come with each hop, only the main character's spirit/mind/etc.
- The epic magic (and innate abilities) of the main character still work (but not ractial abilities, obviously). Because: Because!
Munchkin-ness:
- Use and abuse Mythals! Initial plan is for one 0 Spellcraft DC Wish at will/Wish Stacker (removes Wish numerical limits) prevalent major power/custom level 9 area protection keyed spell Mythal.
- Epic magic in general! Broken BROKEN!
- Easy mass rituals either by Von Neuman style races self created or modified existing races.
- Unsure about actual divine ascension or not (with subsequent creation of pantheon/overgod status).
Questions:
1) What are some good souces for the naming conventions present in the empire of Netheril? (If any)
2) How human-centric was the empire of Netheril? What would be some potential humanoid 'underdog' (or equal? 'Superior'?) races that would not be treated obviously as slaves/chattel? (Ideally immortal and have a soul)
3) What would be some components of an epic build that would be:
a) Comparable to the power/ability of Karsus;
b) Is NOT based on meta-gaming the loss of all 0-9 spell slots (in-character, "it really sucks but was necessary");
c) Is in-character for an ancient Netheril magic user that has bounced around a large number of different planes/universes (that totally abuses Epic Magic & Mythals) before ending up in a typically mundane universe.
4) What are some guidelines/spells/PrCs for abilities tied to the soul/mind/etc of a character instead of the body? (e.g. no racial abilities)
5) What would be some interesting spots for the 'hops' to occur in?
6) Any particular resources for the character of Karsus or the empire of Netheril come to mind?
7) For *true* insane multi-crossover-ness, what would be some NON-D&D abilities/feats/powers/etc that could potentially be picked up by a non-native from other PNP systems during a 'hop' that could last a few years?!
While the typical Netheril uber-citizen would be a human wizard/PrC, I'm ideally thinking of a Sorcerer/x/x, but am unsure about the builds. All comments appreciated!
Thanks for your time!
