Seldarn Empire Notes and Suggestions - help wanted

For Halgo, there's always the old standby for dwarfs. They meet an NPC dwarf who takes a liking to Halgo and, as dwarfs do, attempts to politely work out whether Halgo is really male or female.

Well, our friendly neighbourhood evil merchants are making a visit to Halgo as we speak, so I think he's getting enough focus for the moment :)

Would a thing like the what Halgo's carrying send out some sort of ripples? I don't mean that it affects the people around it (although I certainly hope it doesn't!). I'm thinking more that to someone like a seer, or someone searching for large concentrations of power, it might stick out a bit.

And Seldarn is full of mage academies, after all. Never mind some of the places beyond its borders... [/B]

Once a rival Temple (Pelor, Hextor, etc.) realizes how effective the Yip monks are, they're bound to either kidnap some or start training their own. They fight okay, scout well, and obay orders as well as the best commando. With their ability to spawn like rats, a few deaths isn't a problem. And some will eventually rise high levels, making it all worth it.

As for the bit of god stuff, Detect Magic is definitally going to have a noticable efffect on Halgo.

This is waaaay in the future, CR wise, but I just had a great idea.

A Vampire-Giant. :D Think about, can you imagine the looks on their faces when they realise why the Giants only raid at night?

This seems a little too sensible to me...:D

But yeah, does this mean boat-loads of mages and bright-eyed clerics are going to be landing on Bor and hunting us down? Or better yet, didn't the rest of the Copperheads turn up as part of an expedition of bright-eyed clerics?

Or am I planting evil ideas in your head again?

Or would they go in for some other creature? There are bound to be some interesting possibilities, I just can't think of any.

Answers to big questions in one clump:

Godspark and detect magic - Actually, Halgo's kind of set for this.

One, I keep psionics and magic as relatively seperate entities (although they were once, and may be again, rejoined), so the psionic characters aren't going to notice.

Two, to my shame, Capellan had thought through keeping the stone a secret much further than I had. For the next two sessions, whenever Detect MAgic was needed, Halgo was first to offer a casting using the excuse "Save it, we may need you to trade that spell out later and I've got them to spare" if any other party members looked like they were getting ready to cast it. Then, when they hit civilisation, Halgo got someone to make a lead-lined chest he could keep the god-spark in, and it isn't until he asked how much it would cost that I worked out what he was doing.

So, end result, he's safe from most casual magical attention. Of course, the Ki'Rath have been known to make some money through the sale of information, so it's not like he's the only person in on his little secret....

Yips and other organisations

I'm not to worried about this. For starters, the good churches aren't going to be all that keen to strip another race, even kobolds, of their right to individuality and choice. The Lawful Good ones can't argue that the ends justify the means, and the Chaotic and Neutral Good churches are going to be appaled - one of the reasons the Yip monks were a closely guarded secret until the Trollmist Wars and casualties in trapped goblin caves lead the Church of St Cuthbert into using them openly as part of the military. Since then, there has been a lot of pressure on the pragmatic Cuthertites to free the Yips. Assuming the Copperheads ever actually get back to civilisation, we'll start to see the impact of this. Bor is just a little to far afield for political mechanations of the empire to have impact.

Evil churches may run with the idea, or already have something similar.

The demon-worshipping Guantians have rat-men, which are trained in stealth and assasination rather than monkish arts, but they make a rough equivelent.

Hextorites will likely regard the kobolds as too weak and pointless to train, but will likely start monkish orders based on stronger creatures that breed fast. Orcs, maybe. Or trolls and ogres :)

The Settites to the Empire's west have their own breed of kobold tribes to recruit from, kobolds descended from snakes rather than dragons. Again, they don't have a monkish focus, but they do exist in large enough numbers to serve as a counter point to the Yips...

Makes sense arwink. What about Wee Jas? She's about the only other LN deity I know from Grayhawk (I've been DMing FR for a while now).

As arwink said, orcs, trolls, ogres. There's also goblins or, more for the Hextorians, Hobgoblins.

Saying that, I'm not sure I agree that the Hextorian preists would view the smaller races as too weak. As a Lawful war church, they're inclined to stratagy. With this view, they would better understand what a smaller race could do for them. Especally if sent out with small groups.

With St. Cuthburt, if he decides to dig in his heals, I could see rift forming. Think about the party getting in skirmishes with Clerics and Paladins of Pelor or Heironious (sp?). Maybe in a bar or something quick on the street, stopped by Town Guards or a high ranking church leader.

Add to that a conspiricy or three from evil (and maybe not so evil) churches who want them to declare war on each other. Wee Jas wouldn't mind loosing some competition, especally if it's Cuthburt she's slamming into. A secret group of Heironionions (sp?) may be pushing to get a fight going between them. And Oldemdredia (sp?) would just love the Chaos. Add in a few evil deities for some vile stuff, and a few highly placed Pelorians and Cuthburtians who feel that other churches are an abomanation and/or are sick of having their business (the Yips are only the tip here) questioned by the unenlightened. . . With that, you've got yourself a true conspericy.

Just think of how far reaching the consiquences of that might be.

Then add the PCs, who really like Cuthburt, and make it clear that they can decide what role they want to play. They can try to stop it if they want or they could simply go along with it. LN and fallowing orders afterall.
