Self Delete Threads

First Post
Hrm, would it be possible to let community supporters delete their own posts. Like if they triple posted by accident. Or said something and figured against it.

Right now, we just edit it away, but the post itself remains. It might be nicer to just be able to delete them if thats possible.

thanks.

Nope, I'm afraid not. Moderators need to know when someone has posted something in a thread in case there are problems later.

In specific, being able to delete your own posts creates some accountability issues with people who troll. We'd just as soon avoid that.

Alright, I get that.

But for example, someone writes a thread, the kind you'd rather know about, and decides to edit it to remove what he said before a mod sees it.

Whats the diffrence here between editing or deleting, aside from the fact you know a thread was made at all.

You still couldnt see what he wrote.

When the first post in a thread is deleted the whole thread is deleted. Hence by allowing posters to delete their own posts they can also delete the threads they themselves began along with other people's responses.

The problem therein is that you can make the first post of a thread a troll. When other people call you on it and a flame war starts you can then delete the whole thing before the mods show up.

Without the ability to delete the first post (or any other) you can't delete the rest of the thread.

I believe this is what Pkitty is referring to.

Ah, he's talking about whole threads.
Its not possible to allow someone to delete only their own individual posts that arent thread starters then?

i figured the software the boards use allows for that.

Not as an independent option of deleting thread starters. I wouldn't worry about it so much.

Well, yes, one can always Pm a mod. Tho the whole point is so someone wouldnt have to bother a mod over something so simple.

just my 2 cents (which is really worth 2 bucks)

I know. Alas, letting people delete their own posts (and threads) would open a nice, big can of worms.
