(Self-?) Mutilation of your own characters

I used to run a dragonlance game, and one player announced he was cutting off his own arm, just in case they ever ran across the legendary prosthetic arm used in the forging of dragonlances....I think he was hinting to me...oh well . He failed his system shock roll and died....

I'm currently playing a half-elven rogue in a world where half-breeds are pretty well scorned. He took a pair of shears and cropped off the points of his ears so he can better pass for a human.

Have you ever mutilated your own character, or seen someone else do it to theirs?

There's a ong tradition of characters mutilating themselves in D&D:

Eye of Vecna, Hand of Vecna... Head of Vecna.

[Edit: "There's a ong tradition...?" Do I mean there's a long tradition, or a hong tradition...?]
