I've sold boxes upon boxes upon boxes of books to Half-Price.

They don't pay anywhere near one-quarter of the cover price. I wish they did.
Same here I think if you average it out they end up paying around 1/8 cover price maybe a little less. Except when you bring in a particular book that isn't common, in which case they'll jack the end price up quite a bit to reflect that and you won't see much more than usual.

If they're 1e stuff, I'd be happy to review the list and let you know if you have any true collectible gems in there that would be worth real money. Shoot me an email. I'm also active on the Acaeum and other collecting sites :D

My husband has been in the process of selling all of our D&D books via e-bay for the past three months. 1E items he normally lists with a starting price of $1.99. In most cases, the 1E items end up going for anywhere between $2-$6 per hardback. The 2E stuff has fetched about the same, with hardcovers purchased for roughly $4 per book and splatbooks going for anywhere between $2-7. He's sold a few boxed sets and most of those he lists at a $5.00 starting price and seems to get at least his asking price. I don't believe anything's sold for more than ten dollars. He jokes that sometimes there's a "bidding war" on his items, wherein an item gets two to three bids.

Most of our items have been in prime condition. No writing or highlighting, good covers, pages all intact. One of the monstrous manuals was falling apart--think he got $0.99 for that one and he was careful to make it abundantly clear that the item was in wretched condition.

Last count was that we were up to roughly $170 in OOP e-bay sales of our stuff. Takes a lot of time, though.

The only stuff that sells at premium prices is Planescape material, and a select few modules (the H series (Bloodstone), the old darkmoor series (DA modules such as city of the Gods) and the more obscure M series (for the Master's set of Basic DnD) and the Deities and Demigods with the 'lost mythoi'. The UK series does relatively well also.

Most of the rest sell poorly. With DarkSun and Spelljammer, you could get lucky if several people want them as they do not go up for auction that often.
Our experience has been the opposite.

For 3.0 and 3.5 books, I've been getting $10.00 per hardcover. I let the RttToEE 3.0 book go for $15, though.

We also have the complete 2E leather-like Encyclopaedia Magica set to sell, if anyone's interested. As well as the 2E Rod of Seven Parts boxed set. Both in great shape, but are considered collector's items and thus we expect they'll fetch more than the hardcovers and splatbooks.
