I'll try Starship Troopers, even if it seems rather fascistic.
Well, it flat out is pretty fascistic. I don't think you have to agree with it, but if you're interested in the philosophy of war as expressed through SF fiction, it's right up there. The Forever War is sometimes seen as its opposite number - rather than being celebrated and feted, the combatants in The Forever War become more and more isolated from the society they're defending until they can't tell the difference between their enemies and their "home", and are cast out.
