Serenity Collector's Edition - worth it?

Lockridge

First Post
Hi there,
Have any Serenity fans out there picked up the Collector's Edition? I am a fan but I also don't want to throw away $20 on an extra special feature and "all new packaging."

Anyone know if this is worth it? Do the extra scenes actually add something that was missed in the earlier DVD edition. Very often scenes are cut for a good reason. Your opinion would be helpful.

Thanks all.

Thats what I'm wondering. The marketing description says only new special features and new extended scenes.
I'm wondering if they are worth owning the same movie twice.

From wikipedia:

A two-disc Collector's Edition DVD of the film was released for Region 1 on August 21, 2007. According to Whedon, the excellent sales figures for the "Normal Edition" DVD allowed this release.[56] The DVD included all of the once-Australian-exclusive bonus features, sans the Joss Whedon Q&A session filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney, and with new content including a DTS 5.1 surround track, a second commentary with Whedon, Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau and Ron Glass, the R. Tam sessions (dubbed "Session 416"), and the Sci-Fi Inside: Serenity documentary.[57][58] Universal Pictures redesigned the film's official website to reflect the new DVD set.[59]

You know, I got lucky in this case. I lost my old copy of Serenity a couple of months ago.

Yeah, I know, it's weird to call that "luck." But it meant I had a perfectly good excuse to get the new CE. :D

I haven't watched much of it so far, but I have seen the first, oh, 45 minutes of the commentary with Joss and a bunch of the actors, and it's quite amusing.
