Serenity - the Comic Book (Spolers for issues 1 and 2)

In the commentary on the pilot episode of Firefly, Joss mentions that he had considered bringing Dobson back at some point in the tv show, since he really liked the actor (who is one of his Trifecta actors- appeared on Firefly, Angel, and Buffy). We didn't actually see him dead, did we, just him dropping after he gets shot, and them tossing him out the airlock before they take off. It's strongly implied he was dead, but I seem to recall there being some wiggle room to assume otherwise.

What do you mean we didn't see him dead, he was shot in the head, the reason we didn't see more is because it would make the FCC go loopy.

People who get shot in the head should be dead and should stay that way. If you like an actor or character and want to bring them back then don't kill them off in the first place. And don't start with that it's a comic crap, either (joss is writing this himself so it's even less acceptable).

and in the original sherlock holmes novels moriarity fell off a watefall and he came back.

firefly. cowboys. trains. lasers. pistols. swordplay. pretty costumes. horeseback and train robberies. this is pretty pulpy stuff.

and pulpy is where "the dead guy isnt really dead" comes from. thats where comics took it from.

firefly ALWAYS struck me as a "dead people" will somehow be able to come back universe.
it doesn't have the magic of the buffyverse, but it should be capable of high levels of science and cybernetic implants. And incredible amounts of dumb luck. Plus, Joss loves bringing people back from the dead. "Hey, I died twice" was the lyric his former main character sung, and as soon as he got the writing gig on X-Men what did he do? He brough Colossus back from the dead. And he was cremated. Or so you THOUGHT.

Dobson came back from a gunshot to the head, Jubal Early will come back from floating in space, Krug (sp? niska's henchman in train job that met the propellers) probably has a twin brother or a clone.

There's almost always wiggle room to bring something back from the dead. If the story you're telling does that sort of thing. Bringing someone back from the "dead" on NYPD Blue or 7th Heaven or Frasier is always stupid. Bringing someone back from the dead on most geek-shows and soap operas is a-ok.

There are still guidelines. The Colossus thing was done in the one way it would work and makes perfect sense if you dont just argue it on principle, bringing back other super villains is often done well. (Especially when you always follow the no-body, no-death rule) Bringing back Aunt May from death by old-age by saying that it was a paid actress with plastic surgery who died just to make Spidey upset is just lame to the highest power.

The bullet could have grazed his skull and rendered him unconscious, or even severely injured and incapacitated but not dead. Happens. Not everyone who gets shot in the head dies.

James Brady comes to mind (hehe made a joke and didn't even try).

There was also a mobster who was hot in the forhead. The bullet didn't go through his head, no it richoceted off his skull, under his skin and went around his head and the bullet came out the same hole. After that he decided to turn himself over to the FBI and rat out his "friends".

Just got the first comic, the lame comic shop was out of number 2.

how many comics are there going to be?

if it's known yet, would some one spoil the reason Book isn't as prevalent in the movie? (I heard already that the actor was kinda busy already)

After the show got cancelled he got work in some other stuff. Then the movie deal was penned and he wasn't able to or didn't want to break his previuos commitment. So he wasn't able to spend as much time in the movie. Thats what I heard, have not seen the movie.

I think he was asking why BOOK has a lesser role in the movie, not Ron Glass.

In issue #2 of the comic book, Mal and Book have words. As I stated in my original post, Book even punches Mal.

(status quo at beginning of movie spoiler) [sblock] Presumably this will lead up to Book leaving the ship. As he is not a crew member when the movie begins. Although he is still on friendly terms with the captain and crew. [/sblock]
