Serpent Kingdoms - What Are You Doing With It?

Well, since I helped write it, I'm curious. If you bought it, are you using it, or is it just another fancy looking book on the shelf? If you are using it, what parts are you using?

I've always wanted to run a campaign focused exclusively on Yuan-Ti, but I've never done it. Rest assured, if that happens Serpent Kingdoms will likely see lots of use.

Right now, I'm looking at the purty pictures. :)

Not doing anything with it just yet, but am planning on using it as a resource for designing Carnifex oriented campaigns for Mystara (subbing the Carnifex for the Sarruk).

I had the party visit Orogoth and enter the struggle between yuan-ti and Cult of the Dragon. A yuan-ti party had killed the Old One, and were looking for certain artifacts, but couldn't access some parts of Orogoth because of the Cultists (who managed to find the Old One's phylactery and were trying to find him a new body).

The party aided the yuan-ti, so I never got to use the yuan-ti NPCs I made against them.

Nothing just yet but thinking about designing a possible Gen Con adventures, dealing with warring factions of serpent people between a religious cult of serpent folk and an assassins guild of snake men.

I must admit it is currently "just another fancy looking book on the shelf". I had bought it for a campaign that finally I won't run.

So now among vague campaign projects I do have a Grim Tales - Warhammer one, in which the western continent full of saurian creatures would make use of this book. But likely it wouldn't be used much in such a campaign. I also have another project that I will certainly run, which is a Grim Tales - Call of Cthulhu campaign. I would be interested in adding old ruins and else of serpent races from antediluvian times. I may use the book there, but it is not much likely to be used too there.

In any case I do like Yuan-ti and such creatures, so it was a good book to buy.

Stole the concept

IMC, the PCs had previously had a couple of run-ins with yuan-ti and had managed to severely annoy them by 'destroying' one of their artifacts. Further one of my PCs with a couple of levels of sorcerer and a snake familiar wants to trade in his sorcerer levels for something more combat oriented. Stealing some of the ideas from this book and the Eberron source book, I am planning to have him run into a worshipper of the 'World Serpent' the original god that thought the universe into being and gain a nice new shifter prestige class where he will take on some increasingly serpent-like features when he rages as he progresses in the class.

So while I am not using the book per se, it did give me some good ideas.

I haven't used it yet, but I think many of the ideas will fit well in my Freeport campaign. I'll be up and running with it in a few months.

i'm using it as a placeholder for the rest of my dust collection.

edit: if you read the story hour in my sig you will see we are playing in the FR in the current edition. so far nothing in the Serpent Kingdoms will add to the campaign. so it is on the shelf.

Mine is also just sitting on the shelf. I really like it though. I was running a FR campaign a while back so I was pretty much buying all the FR stuff.

I also had a really cool idea for a jungle-based campaign (a la Lost and Survivor) in which the players start out thinking it'll be a "normal" campaign and then I would just dump them on some tropical island in the middle of nowhere. Needless to say, SK would have fit in perfectly.

Right now though, I don't have much need for lizard and snake races. I'm actually a little tired of lizard and snake races so I don't think I'll be using them anytime soon.
