Setting Iconics?

This is a great thread.

We've actually been considering the creation of a nice set of core signature characters for the Scarred Lands setting, both for the use of our playtesters in testing out new monsters and whatnot, and for free download on the Sword & Sorcery Studios website.

Because our campaign setting does have a definite timeline, though, we intend to include a note as to what level such characters are in the current campaign year; they won't all be the same level in that year, though they can be used in "what if" games or playtesting easily.

These personalities will essentially feature and highlight the various prestige classes that enhance and sharpen the Scarred Lands setting.

The Fading Suns d20 book sort of has Iconics. It has pictures of them, and names (next to each of the class descriptions) but no stats, and they don't appear in any examples in the book. But it gives you an example of what various classes look like.

The trouble I had with the WOTC iconics, is that I think their Paladin looks more like a Ranger. When I think of a Paladin, I think of the Paladin in Hell illustration in the 1st ed PHB. I realize this was probably deliberate on WOTC's part (they want to make a Paladin seem more flexible than past images of one), but I found it annoying.

I can also never remember who is who, past Lidda, Mialee, Krusk, and Tordek. I think WOTC needed to make them a bit more distinct.

Hmm actually some spells named after the 'core' Iconic characters would be neat. Wonder if we're going to see any more products with spell stuff in it for the core/base Greyhawk setting? hmm.

Well JD/Dru, if the Scarred Lands DOES use Iconics, can I be one then? I'd definately like to be bard that also becomes Mourner. That or go complete 180 and be a barbarian/Horseman of Vangal! Just keep me away from Titanspawn!

I remember the photo-shoot for that PHB Iconic pic very distinctly, as there was a lot of discussion about placing me, the chosen arm of justice of Heironeous himself, in only a scale mail top with leggings and a buckler.

While previous editions may have ensconced their slayers-of-evil in decimeters of metal so they resembled walking tin-cans, The Powers That Be chose to place me in a more humanistic, approachable garb.

Thus trying to distinguish the 3E approach that any mortal, even at 1st level, can take up the sword 'gainst evil : you don't have to be some baron, or Lord with title to risk your blood, sweat, life, and even soul to protect the innocent against the forces of ever-spawning darkness.

Besides, plate is hella expensive!

Try affording that on 6d4 x 10 gp's!

Besides while he's not Iconic, Barcious, (featured on the cover Mithril: City of the Golem) DOES look more like a paladin. Still Lady Alhandra is a good paladin no matter WHAT she wears.

Alhandra at higher levels looks much more paladinlike. See her in E&A or the cover of Lord of the Iron Fortress. Her rather butch photo in the PHB is only representative of her at 1st-3rd level.

I can be seen in my high-level glory somewhere in the DMG. Regdar can be seen in HIS high-level glory on the floor of the Broken Nose Tavern, in a puddle of spilled spirits.

Mialee's Spider Purge? I like it! I agree... I'd very much like to see Iconic spells. Hennet, Nebin, Naull and I all have some spells we've been thinking of submitting to WotC, but with current events being what they are, they're not really willing to hear us out.

Hennet is actually the author of the buckle/unbuckle spell you can find in R&R. He's not credited, but he's the creator. Look at his outfit and tell me that doesn't make sense.
