[Setting riff] Y the last man on various famous settings.

In the comic Y the Last Man, all the men just up and die in the same moment, world-wide.

I was wondering what would happen if something a bit like that happened in settings like Eberron, Forgotten Realsm, Greyhawk, Golarion, Krynn, etc. (but this could apply to other famous settings too, it isn't restricted to D&D).

I would change it somewhat and let male animals live. But I would not let male deities or outsiders live.*

So how would the settings deal with the change? Would some divine portfolios go vacant? Would Krynn suddenly favour Evil since the Good Dragon God died (as well as Raistlin, the only only being really able to stand up to the Evil Dragon God)?

*I will say that this means that trans men die and trans women live.

phew, I don't know if such a scenario translates well into settings that are highly magical AND have greek pantheon style gods. Plus not all races or gods have defined genders. For FR, for example, one could state that Corellon Larethian would survive since he is not exactly a defined "he". And their gods are able to create new life, so if the catastrophe is universe-shaking enough to prevent the gods from re-creating men, they'd most certainly find a work-around (create a new gender, make women bi-gendered, cloning?)

For an example of what might happen if *most* people of one gender died, you can read up the Eladrin of Zeitgeist. Where almost all women died. Hint: It happened 500 years ago and it wiped almost all of them out. It also lead to a chaotic, socially apocalyptic nation-breakdown, followed by a slow rebirth of the remaining people under a wholly different system of government. (note: I still don't know how this happened exactly since I'm only a player in this campaign, but I'm playing one of the rare daughters and it is quite interesting).

Probably not, these would be taken up by the surviving deities and any new beings that would rise in status.

Depends on the Age you're playing in, but yes if you're paying in the Age of Despair, Takhisis would win.
You would have to determine if your definition of male outsiders include creatures such as Lord Soth?

Leaving aside the loss of male heroes and deities for a minute...
Depending on how this would affect undead, if at all - But if it did, you would see some major repercussions in in the Demiplane of Dread, Thay (Szass Tam), Dark Sun's Sorcerer Kings, the Abyss and the Nine Hells. Power vacuums would be created all over the place. Drow would certainly get a boost. Interesting stories could flow from this.

Lord Soth and other "male" undead would be destroyed.

Also, to plug a loophole, somehow precognition, oracles, time-travel and contingency spells don't predict this and don't save one. And while the remaining gods could create new female life, they couldn't create new men (and presumably there is some cost to continually creating life so that mortals might need a workaround that doesn't require constant divine intervention). That could be a campaign quest, I suppose.
