[Setting] Runa

Sounds like a good group! Can you share what you came up with for the aasimar's racial write-up? I'm curious. Also, are you running the doppleganger as per the MM info, or are you adding anything to it?

For the Doppleganger we are just going by the MM.
The Aasimar is the Tiefling but tweaked and inverted.

Instead of resist fire the aasimar gets resist ice.
Instead of Infernal Wrath the aasimar gets Celestial Wrath (same thing but with a different name.)

The aasimar also gets:
+2 Wisdom, +2 Charisma
+2 Diplomacy, +2 Insight

That's a simple but effective aasimar. I like it! It'd be a great race for a cleric or paladin, too, which makes a lot of sense.

Adding to this a bit, I'm thinking maybe the ancients were an extinct race of beings once known as the starborn.
They came to the world of Runa from another planet and used the dungeons to populate the world with various slave races created from the marrow. The original slave races were angels, demons, dragons, illithid, the aboleth, and beholders. These would become the 'high slaves'.
Under the high slaves there were the warforged, the lizardmen, and the apemen.

Eventually, the starborn were wiped out by disease leaving their slaves to rule the world in their stead. After their demise, their slaves turned on one another.
The apemen and the lizardmen used the marrow to create their own slave races.
Apemen created the humans, the elves, the dwarves, the halflings, and the giants.
Lizardmen created the kobolds and the dragonborn.
As mighty as the apemen were, they were decadent and cruel to their slaves. Eventually the humans and the other slaves of the apemen rebelled and abandoned their masters allowing them to be overcome by the massive kobold hordes.
