I don't actually POST much, but I am a regular lurker...
Anyhow, thank you all for the good thoughts. I wish that I could say something about the setting, but it's still top secret at the

Congradulations, Mr. Baker!

;) Now quit celebrating and chain yourself to your word processor so we can get out greedy hands on the final product as soon as possible! ;)

I just read this. Wow, what a flood of conflicting emotions.

KeithBaker, congratulations. You caught their eye, sold them on the goods, and then delivered a 100-page setting bible in less than a year. Against some very fierce competition, at that!

My fellow EN Worlders -- Unaccustomed as I am to public writing...

Yeah, yeah. I just wanted to thank everyone again for all the positive thoughts. Despite my much-touted "professional" status (from some of the posts I've seen, you'd think I was Monte Cook or Jonathan Tweet), I never really thought I had a chance. I'm very impressed that WotC really went through with the whole thing, and really did blind judge it. I've seen some excellent ideas among the one pagers that have been posted, and I certainly don't envy the judges for the choices they had to make. Personally, I want to see Mr. Toomey and Mr. Burlew's worlds, and really hope that WotC will do something with them in the future (and yes, they do own the rights to all the final round worlds).

As for the setting itself, I just can't say anything. I'm still under NDA, and if I talk they get to shoot my cow. I'm guessing that they want to wait to give out details until the world is closer to release -- after all, a lot could change between then and now. I will say that it is significantly different from the current settings that are out there, and it's certainly got some unusual twists. I hope you'll have fun with it!

Thanks again!

-Keith

The Loser Speaks...

Just to chime in, congratulations again to you, Keith. I wonder if I can ask for a recount, I'm sure there are more votes from Florida somewhere...

At any rate, Wizards does indeed own my setting bible completely now, though it has been suggested by more than one WOTC employee to me that it would be very unwise for them to sit forever on something they paid $20,000 for. I hope (and believe) that it will make it to the light of day at some point, if only as a one-shot or something.

I'll be getting some lovely parting gifts: I'm already set to be working on one of WOTC's not-yet-announced books, and I'm in discussions with one of the most prolific 3rd party publishers to pen a sourcebook or two. (All still very top secret, naturally.) So it's been a great experience; not "$100,000 great" but still pretty damn fulfilling. :)

You really don't want to annoy Bossy. Planets die when Bossy gets annoyed.:D

But seriously…

Rich, get together with the PTBs at Wizards and see about starting a small press imprint. Call it, say, "Playground Giant Press". PGP being the company WotC uses to publish your setting. Since it works for White Wolf it should work for Wizards of the Coast.

I'm thinking of a series of "chapbooks", starting with an overview of the world, then going on to the various nations, races, and critters. Followed by omnibus volumes should the chapbooks take off.

In any case, here's hoping you both do well in your new endeavours.
