Setting up base camp

You're welcome for the info. Sadly, I've done so much research on the time period and cultures for campaign creation, that what I wrote was literally just the thoughts off the top of my head.

As for how often it happens in my game... well, it wouldn't be the first time the players set up something. There was one campaign where they wrested control of a mountain valley from powerful undead, then realized that with some magical roadwork, it could be a much shorter route across the mountains and would make them a mint. In another game, the party actually built up a whole nation by freeing the enslaved people; their main base was the lair of a family of dragon's they killed, which had originally been a dwarven crypt system. In the current campaign, the party has gone into mercantile and are planning on setting up some cottage industries, in addition to making trade ships of some pirate vessels they captured.

And that's not even getting into the businesses that were set up in various science fiction games we've run...
