I wouldn't pick the two of the three D&D core books. They don't serve my needs. So, for d20...

1. Spycraft 2.0
2. Call of Cthulu d20
3. Blood & Fists
4. Monster Manual
5. Lords of Madness
6. d20 Modern
7. Arcana Evolved

I would probably pick the three D&D core books just because of the wide player base. As much as I enjoy other games, the support for D&D and the wide spread of it makes it excellent for getting to know groups and find games.

Beyond those:

1.) d20 Modern
2.) Grim Tales
3.) d20 CoC
4.) Dark*Matter Campaign Sourcebook

Manual of the Planes 3e
Faces of Evil: The Fiends
Hellbound: The Blood War
Uncaged: Faces of Sigil

Or, if just 3e sources:

Manual of the Planes
MM3
Lords of Madness
BoVD

Eberron Campaign Setting
Sharn: City of Towers
Five Nations
Explorer's Handbook
(The last one is freaking fantastic! So many great ideas, and Rich Burlew helped write it, so it actually reads well, too!)

Ditto... I might drop the Five Nations (wasn't too impressed with it) and add the Expanded Psionics handbook.. as I have a new love for Psionic characters lately.

1. Foul Locales: Urban Blight MEG
2. Creature Collection Revised SSS
3. Sandstorm WOTC
4. Broadsides!! Naval Adventuring Living Imagination
