Shadow Jump Question

Hi all!!

A question came up last night in my game. One of the players is playing a ShadowDancer and used the Shadow Jump ability. The question is, does useing this ability invoke an attack of opportunity?

THANKS

IIRC Shadow jump is a supernatural ability. And supernatural abilities do not inherently provoke attacks of opportunity. So as long as I am right about the supernatural ability part, then it does not.

Datt,

Obviously you're thinking as we did, but the description for shadow jump states: "At 4th level, the shadowdancer gains the ability to travel between shadows as if by means of a dimension door spell." This lead us to question whether it's a spell like ability (which invokes attacks of opportunity), or a supernatural ability (which does not).

Thanks. More thoughts??????

Still need help!!:(

Since it's not specified in the shadow dancer description, I'd say it's GM's discretion.

Well, I am the GM. I'm looking for suggestions so I can make a fair ruling the next time it comes up.

I got that part ;)

What I meant was that I can't see it really has a reason to be one or the other based on the in book description. So pick one and stick with it.

Most of the monsters that mention "dimension door" have it as a spell like ability, but the Blink Dog has it as supernatural.

If it were me, I'd probably lean towards supernatural.

Hmmmm - it's really hard to say. It does seem to be more a spell-like ability (by comparing it to dimension door), but it's isn't dimension door (as it is limited to shadows). I'd probably rule it as a supernatural ability as I see it as an extension of Hide In Plain Sight which is a supernatural ability.
