For the Banishment scenario, I might rule that the hound waits at the spot baying until the 5 minutes are up or the one minute Banishment duration is up, whichever comes first. Even in the case of the demon, your concentration could be disrupted in the first minute and it could return.

Given the Hound doesn't require consentration, you can also cast haste on it.
