Shadowdark: tips for a new GM?

Consider holding off on the Cursed Scrolls. The next Kickstarter campaign happens in March and in addition to issues 4-6, it apparently will have a remastered set of the originals as well, apparently with new covers and a slipcase or something.

Hopefully tossed into a nice book, I'll re-buy if they are all put into another book.

The hints she's given are a little confusing. It sounds like there's going to be a setting book that connects all six Cursed Scrolls into a single setting, new versions of the Scrolls with color covers of some sort, maybe a slip case, and something else she's not saying yet. If it was the mega-dungeon she's been working on for a while, I'm not sure she could sit on that secret, so that's probably a future crowdfunding campaign.

Yeah all good, I'm a sucker for it I think and it wont take up too much space.

I love the cursed scrolls in their current form. I hope that the next few will also have a version that’s similar! Besides the compiled hardcover version, I mean.

WhatEVER. Just take my money.

Light is so important in Shadowdark, the implementation in FoundryVTT is excellent. In my last session first level characters were raiding a "dragons" hoard when the dragon returned (it was more of a giant crocodile with a breath weapon). After 2 rounds their light ran out, one player was down, the "dragon"had been badly wounded by a fireball scroll....I gave them the option of continuing the fight (all on disadvantage to hit) or fleeing dragging their companion with them....they chose the latter option and had a good story to tell back in the village.

Has anyone here mixed Shadowdark with Into the Cess and Citadel and/or Into the Wyrd and Wild?

Tempted to use the monster part scavenging rules from the latter, but not sure how to "calculate" weight of a monster (the rules are tied into how many increments of 100 lbs. the creature is).

I used a real world torch timer and would decrease it if they spent time picking a lock or searching etc. pick a lock? 10 minutes off the timer.

Like BX it can be pretty deadly the first few levels. The character that survives to like 3rd level is your actual character

Also make Hirelings available if you need to.

Also I don’t like SDs xp system and just use a standard D&D one.
