Shadowrun I: The Take-Out

Sarli notices Kayla study him like she could see right through him for a few moments, and recognizes the significance.

Mage. he thinks to himself. If he minds the common mage habit of astral peeking upon meeting everyone new save the thought, Like a dog that has to sniff everyone new. he doesn't show it. Save a small frown at the mere thought of dogs.

"Mr. Thorn wishes us to extract a willing scientist from Franklin & Marshall University. The place has a reputation for extensive magical security. The agreed upon offer is 5,000 nuyen a person, plus 20,000 for expenses. If you are in, that would make 5 of us."

He looks at her upon being addressed.

"Sounds simple enough. But then most everything does when condensed down to a couple sentences. As to the magic, that's likely your department, although I can probabally give you some fairly educated guesses" After several years working intimately with Aztech's extensive (Some would say obscenely paranoid) magical security measures, he'd likely be pretty knowledgeable about likely magical measures in place and a bit about how to deal with them.

He nods. "I'm in, then."

"Works for me," Jake tosses out. Sure, he doesn't have the slightest clue how well they are really getting paid, how long this will take, how dangerous it'll be or really any damn thing about what's going on.
Can't be any harder than his old job though.

“Very well, then we have a deal!” She extents her hand to Mr. Thorn.

“How do we get back to you?”
"Excellent," says Thorn. He produces from inside his jacket a business card. Plain white, the card simply reads 'Daniel Thorn, Esq.' and gives an LTG number. He hands it to Siren. "Here. When the job is done, simply call this number from any phone and you'll reach me. Or someone else who can reach me." A third agent the runners hadn't seen before now enters from a side room with several credsticks in tow. Thorn indicates these. "These credsticks are fully certified. I have forwarded you the 20,000¥ in advance, the rest payable when you contact me at the LTG on my card. Are there any further questions?"

Siren

Siren pockets the card and takes the credsticks for now. “Thank you Mr. Thorn. We will contact you as soon as we have any news.”

Kayla raises a slender eyebrow when Siren accepts all of the Credsticks meant for expenses, but just shrugs, it didn't really matter. Looking around at the others, now that the business of the meet was over, she was ready to go somewhere else and talk out the planning of it, somewhere the Johnson couldn't have planted bugs, not that she distrusted him, but thats what Johnsons did, according to the stories she had heard.

"If no one has any objections, I suggest we adjurn to somewhere more... fitting... if anyone knows of such a place, I believe bars have rooms for private parties that we could procure for planning and meetings until we complete the run. It would also give some of us the chance to change into something less conspicuous and more comfortable," she says looking at Jake discretely. She simply waits and listens to the others wearing an unfathomable expression of calm serenity.

The local bars were something Jake had been becoming familiar with over the past few weeks. After all, it was always in sleazy bars that this sort of wheeling and dealing was supposed to take place.
Then again, a sleazy bar wasn't quite what he thought the elf was looking for. Or where he'd even ended up.

"Eh..." Jake mutters vaguely, trying to recall somewhere appropriate. As he talks he heads for the door, opening it and standing nearby while he waits for the others. "There's the Union Hotel. Not real close and not exactly what you asked for, but we could rent a central room there if you guys want to. Also got a place for food and drink in the same building. Not to mention that the only other places I know about aren't likely to have a backroom or anything remotely appropriate for sittin' and talkin' alone."

"Wherever we're goin', does anybody need a ride there? I got some room to spare."

*looking at maps*
OOC: Looks as though MapQuest survived the near-apocalypse. Now THERE'S a corp you don't want to mess around with...

"Thanks for the ride, but I prefer my bike. Anywhere is fitting me, as long as I am fitting in, if you understand what I mean."

After a bit of discussion, the runners decide to adjourn to the Union Hotel. They take their various rides there - between Jake's truck and MAD's bike - and get there only a brief time later. After a brief discussion with the proprietor/bartender, an ex-samurai named Trey, the runners get a quiet conference room away from the noise of the soundsystem.

A moment later, Spring-Heel comes back into the room, a large mug of beer in tow. "Hadn't any porter," he says, taking a seat. He scans the others. "How are we going to go about this, then?"

Siren

As Siren left the building, where the meeting took place, she concentrates on a spell, and her clothing starts to change. Her business dress transforms into more leisure garbs, suitable for driving her bike; hip-hugging black leather pants, a red halter top, which leaves her midriff bare, showing her beautifully shaped waists, and a black leather jacket, with the gang sign of the Ancients at the back. Her shoes change to fitting boots with heels. Her altered clothing gives her a whole different look, but looks just as gorgeous, or even more-so, as with the more formal dress. She walks up to her Yamaha Rapier while putting on a pair of orange colored sunglasses and drives to the place they have determined for the further planning.

Having taken a comfortable seat, she addresses her new team-mates: “I hope you are ok with the outcome of the negotiations. It was hard to guess how much would be appropriate, since we know so little about what to expect yet, but it looks like I got Mr. Thorn to a point, where he was hesitating about the sum, so we probably got about as much as we could. Well... about the job... maybe it would be possible to find out in what way visitors are allowed to enter and leave the site. This way, we could get some general information about what we are up to in a quite unsuspicious way. That would be a good place to start. I don't think, Ms. Sellers is allowed to leave the campus, that would be a bit too easy.”

“Oh, but maybe we should start with some introduction... I'm Siren, as you should know by now, and I am a witch. I should be able to deal with some of the magical obstacles and I can call spirits to hide us from sight, create diversions, or perform other services. I'm also quite decent at disguise as long as no magically active watches me on the astral.”
