Why WOTC Should Make a TRANSFORMERS RPG!

This thread started at the WOTC forum boards, but considering the nature of the thread (as well as hoping to boost the idea into the eyes of WOTC and perhaps some Hasbro folks who might be lurking about), I thought perhaps this would be a good place to link it. Since I'm not the original author, I don't exactly feel right just copy/pasting the original post over here, and so therefore I chose to just insert the link to this particular thread. Hope you all enjoy.

Making it compatible for the d20 system seems like a no-brainer from my seat, though the holders of the copyright may feel differently.

Well, the owner of "Transformers" happens to be the same little company that owns Wizards of the Coast, so IF there ever is a Transformers RPG, you can bet it will be D20. Somehow, I don't think we will ever actually see a Transformers game, but I suppose anything is possible.

Does Hasbro "own" the Transformers? I thought they just distributed the toys (made by Takara) in the USA... Dunno who does the anime in Japan...

Personally I would rather see something based on the Micronauts (old Marvel scomic series not the Microman toys or anime recently released)...

I know this is weird...

Hasbro as far as I remember owns the rights to Transformers. The original toy models were from that company you listed, but now they do the design and production themselves. They also licence out the rights for shows, games, and comics. I don't know how this translates to Japan, but I think it's solid there too.

Takara has the license for the toy line, yes... just checked my Transmetal Optimus Primal and various RiD Transformer boxes to make sure of that before I opened my mouth and stuck both my feet in. However... I think Marvel Comics had to get permission from Hasbro when Marvel released the original Transformers comic back during the 80s, and I'm pretty certain the same held true for the new Transformers comic, due out in April (and thank God, it's Generation One, at least from the looks of things). If someone does know for certain and I'm wrong, by all means correct me. Learn something new every day, after all. :)

Pardon.

Ah, so that's the case. Ah well. I do remember that the entire Beast Wars/Machine line was developed by Hasbro. (Saw the prototypes on various fan sites.) So, Hasbro must have a distribution contract with them. I wonder who owns the idea rights.

I'm assuming Hasbro, since they're the ones developing all the new toy lines. Operative word: assuming. Can't say for certain on that point.
