I really wish they would have just dropped the whole Compontents part, which is just confusing and 99% of the time it doesn't really matter anyway.

They could have ruled that you cannot cast if you are restrained and/or gagged and thats it. A few Spells might include costly Materials for balance but free Materials could just go the way of the Dodo. With that you would have different Rules for Classes, Focus, Feats, etc..

Free materials can be fun too. I had the party arrested on overblown charges. All their stuff was taken away, and they were then transferred by some doppelgangers to a secret prison. It was fun for everyone to creatively get out of the situation, and the wizard was scouring his cell for stuff like a bit of spider web.
