Shield spell and See Invisibility

OK. But the invisible stalker actually has a form that can be seen with see invisibility (a faint cloud outline).

But a shield doesn't have a visible form at all. So what do you see?

It has a shape, the shape of a disk. So you see a transparent disk.

Btw: Are you sure that a shield spell has to be directed into the direction where the magic missiles come from to counter them?
Yes. "The disk protects the character only against magic missiles and attacks from one direction." (Shield spell description)

So you "see" a transparent disk, that is not transparent because of an effect or spell, when it is in fact transparent because it simply does not have a visible form to begin with. I partially agree that is correct according to the rules, but it's so logically rediculous that I don't fully agree.

So, would you see it as an outline of a disk, much like the invisible stalker has an outline?

Anyway. Can someone remind me why the heck the original question was even asked? ;)

Yet you agree that you would see the invisible stalker, which also does not have a visible form to begin with?

Exactly.

Pay attention. What you replied to wasn't a question in the first place.

Also, the Invisible Stalker has Natural Invisibility, a supernatural ability that renders it invisible. The ability is always on. It's natural appearance is that of a cloud of vapor.

So, your mentioning of the Invisible Stalker techincially doesn't further your argument in any way, as it would be just the same had you mentioned a dwarf wearing a ring of invisibility that is constantly active. Both the dwarf and Invisible Stalker have natural appearances, and both are constantly invisible.

I never said it was. It was a contradictory statement. You obvioiusly needed some help. I was just being charitable. :)

It wasn't contradictory. It was a statement of semi-agreement and clarification.

So, if it now appears as visible with "See Invisibility". Can you see your target anymore?

The use of see invisibility, if it makes it an opaque disk should then create 3/4 concealment for the target. After all one could perfectly see the target before you insisted upon seeing the invisible shield.

You (and possibly your allies) would know which way an enemy's shield was facing. Useful information both for Magic Missile, (ranged) touch spells and physical attacks.
