Shield Spell -- was wondering...

I guess this should go to a new thread, but I believe that Shield is one of the spells that are far more powerfull than they should be for their level... specially if you apply all the rules accordingly.

Well, it is still personal only, but what comes when you make a scroll?? Is it personal or touch??

Range doesn't change,
on the scroll for the mage,
It's only for you,
not your twink fighter too.

Anyway it is much better when your rogue can be shielded, isn't it?? What? Why?? Well, who said use magic device isn't very nice, isn't it...

Your rogue he can do,
with a Shield scroll or two,
but if he blows the roll,
he's out 25 gold. :p

If you opt not to have the shield provide cover, would it stack with cover? That is, would the +7 from the shield stack with the cover from the big rock you're standing behind?

Cover bonus! Cover bonus!
All in the descriptor!
No stacking of the same,
without the DM's favor!

I'd say no, because even if it isn't cover, its still a cover bonus.

Gee, that's about as clear and consise as talking about different types of actions :).

Well, as I created this Thread, may I post my conclusions to help some people make some logical escapes from the rest of the bonuses...

1 - The Shield Spell provides cover bonus per the description, that is ok,.
2 - The Reflex save bonus and the protection from AoO are not applied due to the spell level, if the players want it, give them, just say that you will also adjust the spell a few levels...they gotta love it at 3rd level... hehehe...
3 - you may say that it creates a transparent barrier that is hard to bypass and stays at one side of you, the barrier is broken every time it is hit, reforming after the blow, that allows for a blow to stop at the barrier (due to the +7 to AC), and it works very similar to cover, so be it!
4 - I like the spell a lot as it is, and if it was per the rules I would think it too strong.

Don't forget that shield has a duration of 1/round a level. This doesn't make it that strong at low levels and when it lasts long enough to actually matter +7ac doesn't really help that much.

I don't know of very many situations when a +7 to AC wouldn't help.

As far as I can see, and played a bladesinger up to 12th character level (some rogue levels in it), shield was very, very helpful, the monsters seldomly hit me, that keeps me alive, and you gotta see what kind of havokers my DM uses... they slay about one per 2 rounds... i outlived them all, didn't die even once.

And for the duration, at higher levels, the battles tend to take more playing time, and less rounds, the combats are killers, you either die or kill, and BE QUICK!!

To have an idea, hit my AC there: 32!! (with shield, of course)
