Shield Spell -- was wondering...

Don't forget that shield has a duration of 1/round a level. This doesn't make it that strong at low levels and when it lasts long enough to actually matter +7ac doesn't really help that much.

Er, 1 minute/level. Big difference. 10 rounds at first level.

To have an idea, hit my AC there: 32!! (with shield, of course)

ok, my current 11th level character would need a 7 or better to hit you without even going into a rage or frenzy. add rage and frenzy and it's 2 or better, leaves plenty of room for improved power attack to kick in to cut ya down to size.

oops, my bad =o) that's what I get for posting before I get my mornin coffee. anyways though, it still isn't all that big of a deal. does +7ac help out, sure it does, but not as much at higher levels so it balances itself out.

Well, gotta say that my DM doesn't give magic items away easily... i have one +1 magical longsword, anyway, the method was quite near the one on DMG for buying attributes... AND, 25 is not very easily to obtain with one suit of magical armor (celestial) and dex only... we also use a simple rule to improve AC at higher levels, not really strong, but it has been 3 pints so far...

actually AC25 is impossible to get with JUST celestial armor and dex. start out as an elf with max dex and the 3 ability bonuses going into dex. that's a dex of 23, or a +6 mod, chainmail is +5 so 10+6(dex)+5(chainmail)+1(magical enhancement for celestial armor)=22, even if you were a halfthing it would only be 23 for the extra +1 size mod. Now that is only including armor and dex as you say =o)

An 11th level character with a +25 attack bonus? That's pretty unusual. I've seen 15th level fighters with a lower attack bonus.

Even assuming a +5 weapon, weapon focus, and a 24 strength before raging, that only gives +24 attack bonus.

In any case, my current 8th level melee character can get an AC of 43 (including shield). By the time he's level 11, it will be at least AC 46 and possibly 50. This is using only a +1 shield, +1 full plate, ring of protection +1, and boots of speed.

10+9 Armor +3 Sheild +4 Haste +1 Deflection +8 Expertise +6 Total Defense with Tumble bonus +1 Dex +1 Dodge? :)

Or would you loose the tumble synergy with heavy armor?

Or if by Shield, you ment Shield
10+9 Armor +3 Sheild +4 Haste +1 Deflection +8 Expertise +7 Shield Spell +1 Dex?

Expertise is capped at +5 AC, and you can't use Expertise and Total Defense together. You can use Expertise and Fighting Defensively though.

10 (base)
+9 (Full Plate +1)
+3 (large steel shield +1)
+1 (Dex)
+1 (Ring of prot +1)
+1 (Dodge)
+2 (Fighting Defensively)
+5 (Expertise)
+7 (Shield spell) - cast from scroll (No arcane spell failure)
+4 (Haste from Boots of Speed)
___________________________
43 AC against one opponent,

+4 when fighting a giant (he's a dwarf)
+4 when moving (he has mobility)
+1 if he casts Protection from Evil and is fighting.

This gives him an AC of 52 when moving past an evil giant and provoking an AoO.

Which makes him the worlds best character for running away from giants! :) lol

With a speed of 15' he isn't getting very far!

It also kicks in when closing on a giant and provoking an AoO due to the giant's reach.

Well, let me see my sheet...
AC:
10+
8+ (Celestial armor: +3 Chainmail)
2+ (dex)
3+ (int - bladesong ability)
3 (Misc -- house rule -- +1 AC for every 4 levels)
-----------
26 AC total
+7 from Shield spell
------------
33 AC total

Quite a bit, considering that i am not using any feat or other magical item beside my armor (which is not celestial by the book, my DM made it more powerfull when rolling and using not previously created ways of articulating tables... +3 instead of +1 and =10 to move silently -- which came for my chracter being blind)...

Oh, and I have an atack roll (with a masterwork longsword) of +16/+11, for a Rogue 3rd/ Fighter 4th/ Wizard 1st/ Bladesinger 4th it is quite a lot.

I still have dodge mobity spring attack whirlwind, expertise, and some others... 15% arcane spell failure and 30 feet movement (if not using expditious retreat...)

33 AC, 30 feet (maybe 60!!), +16 to hit (or +11 with +5 to AC), spring attack, +4 to Ac against AoO, and +2d6 sneak attack when flanking... that made me quite a killer in the game...
