I have a question concerning the way that shields work along side the magic item arms slot. I understand a magic shield "ie: Healer's Shield, etc" takes up the magic item arms slot; but what about a nonmagical shield (solely providing the wearer a bonus to AC/Ref and taking up the hand free)?
For instance, can my fighter have a heavy shield equipped and a magic item arms slot (such as the "Iron Armbands of Power")? Essentially adding +2 to my AC/Ref, and a +2 - +6 bonus to melee damage. The character builder allows me to have a heavy shield (nonmagical) equipped with Iron Armbands of Power, so I am inclined to believe that I can.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as my DM and I do not agree on this matter. Thanks in advance!!
