New Monsters: The monsters detailed in The Shining South include a new, wingless, true dragon (the rattelyr), the bloodthirsty dark tree, the legendary one-eyed giant known as the cyclops, and the laraken -- a magic-slurping outsider that's sure to wreak havoc with spellcasters!

Check out the pick of the rattelyr...

nice - they even worked in the dark trees and laraken from the original Shining South book. :D

The art gallery is up:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ag/20041008b

Monsters featured:
Beguiler
Halruaan Behir
Dark Tree
Rattelyr Dragon
Laraken
Loxo
Mantimera
Starsnake
Tall Mouther
Tasloi
Thri-kreen

Not much new, but it does feature the return of some old favorites.

I think the thri-kreen are trying to set a record for the most 3E book and magazine appearances.

Let's see...the Psionics Handbook web enhancement, the Monster Manual II, Savage Species, the Expanded Psionics Handbook, and now Shining South. Anything else?

Don't think you've missed any, Alzrius. Of course, the Thri-kreen are closely followed by Loxos and Desmodus. With the release of loxos in Shining South, I think these two are now tied. ;)

What pisses me off is that they say "New" when referring to the tasloi and the loxo. They aren't NEW! They've been around for years!

The loxo is in the Creature Catalog, and I'm thinking about using it in some area of my homebrew just to break the monotony of humanoid races, even though I'm not too wild about it.

i also see conversions of old-school FR monsters beguiler and mantimera. :) and the tall mouther gets the 3.5 treatment too.
