ShoreCon, Cherry Hill, New Jersey

I asked a few days ago where I could find the website for ShoreCon, what I believe to be the closest convention to Philly for gamers, although I wouldn't be surprised if I were wrong about that. In fact, if anybody knows of good conventions that take place IN Philly, I'd love to hear about them.

For those who had the same question as I had, here is the website for ShoreCon. Thanks to those who gave me the lead.

I've never had the pleasure to attend ShoreCon (I moved away from NJ in 1991), though several Greyhawk fans in the NJ area have said good things about it.

It is a great convention, Hi grodog :)
It was my wife first convention, and also my first one on the East coast when I moved out here form CA. Lots of great people, and lots of fun.

RPGA

How good of a job does the RPGA do at conventions, in general? I would accept the answer that it is highly variable, depending totally on the GM in question, but I do wonder if there is a certain "standard of quality" to their tournament D&D games. Any thoughts?

My only experience with the RPGA was at GenCon 2000, and the game sucked, imo, due to a DM who did not have an inkling of how to run 3rd Edition. Of course, his performance could be forgiven at the time since I hadn't even bought the book yet, and all he was given to work with was an old copy of play-test rules.

Hi Ken :D I'll be in Merchantville, NJ, next for Christmas, and have hope to be able to get together with some Greyhawk folks then (though it's always harder over the holidays....).

I've played in lot of RPGA gamaes back in the middle-1980s or so, and found most of them pretty lacking.

I've got several friends, though, who have participated heavily in Living Greyhawk, and have said many good things about it. While you're right, that the DM and the players certainly make the biggest difference in the success of a 4-hour timeslot, I have to say that the quality of the LG scenarios I have read and heard about has in general been pretty high.

If you hop onto some of the Greyhawk lists or shoot a question to them, you should be able to get some good input about what the best LG scenarios are, and to request them specifically for ShoreCon.

Kewl deal, well send a reminder and maybe we can set up a meeting of people in the area.
Tal mete is a moderator on the greytalk list I believe, and he also helps organize shore con,

grodog -

I just noticed that you live in San Jose; I used to live up I-880 from you, in Fremont. I also used to live in Wayne, NJ from '90-'93. (And I'm moving from WI to CT in the next two weeks.) Gotta love our nomadic society. :)
