Short Setting Ideas

Tinker Gnome

Adventurer
In this thread we will all post some short ideas that may help one to develop a homebrew or to use in an existing homebrew.

1. Humans no longer exist in the world. It is unknown what happened to them. No bodies have been left, but ruins of their settlements can be found practically everywhere in the world.

2. There is currently a social revolution going on in the Dwarven community. Female dwarves are beginning to express their sexuality, much to the confusion of the traditionally gender-repressive and male-centric dwarven culture. Dwarves do not have a pronoun for "she", or any feminine gender implied (no princesses, no queens). The current mountain king is actually a female, and Her Highness approves of the social change.

3. The kingdom is a repressive tyrany, enforced by an omnipresent secret police whose sole goal is to find, torture, and "re-educate" as many "disloyal" citizens as they can. They will repeatedly attempt to capture or kill the PC's.

They called that the Midnight setting. ;)

For a short setting - do a D&D "Lost" -

A ship carrying passengers (including the characters) has wrecked on an unknown island, where strange arcane temples are found, a strange community of Elves can seemingly produce goods and weapons (but at what price?), a mysterious creature hunts the survivors, etc.

They called that 1984 ;)

Another setting:
5- The surface of the planet is unhabitable, so say the rulers, and adventurers gone there have not returned. Actually it is habitable, but rulers make a pretty good living selling the production from "up there", of course, noone knows the origin of the production.
Now, when a hostile race/monster starts raiding the surface, goods become rarer and rarer, up to the point we have now various underground human clans, tribes, and factions... all fighting over the resources; but noone knows yet what is that which impedes surfacing.

6. Take your typical D&D world, and advance technology by one level. Basic firearms. What is the result? Chaos. With even the most humble of farmers able to either purchase or manufacture black powder weaponry, those who are in power have the most to fear.
