The monstrosity had only take three strides when Nigel Coldtree and Eitleog Kite reach it. Despite it size, or perhaps because of it, its movements where more deliberate than reactionary. A ripple rolls over the skin of both Coldtree and Kite, though the result is slightly differing, the effect appears to be the same. With both enhanced, Kite is still faster. As Coldtree stoops to drive a reverse punch at the right knee of the automaton, hoping to buckle the armor, Kite leaps completely over him, spinning parallel to the floor, swinging his right sword at the right arm of the thing.

Kite strikes the right wrist, knocking the weapon free to slide across the floor. He lands, poised like some acrobatic dancer, his arms and swords extended like an elegant bow. Coldtree buckles the knee, but it gives more easily than expected, like the armor is truly hollow, not housing a body. It goes down on its right knee, extending its left leg, like a trained swordsman, to not fall over. Having just lost its weapon, it reflexively counters the hammering blow from Coldtree, even as it is collapsing down to a knee. It swings right arm, backhanded, knocking Coldtree three strides across the floor. The enhanced brawler is dazed but not particularly hurt.

Just as Coldtree is struck, Terrendale hits the left shoulder of the armor with his stone. The rock, itself, has no effect, but the armor begins to smoke slightly, as the spent stone bounces to the wooden floor. The suit of armor begins to rise to both feet, focused on Kite, who is near its fallen bokken.

OOC: I have completed editing the chapter titled, Character Mastery, and have uploaded the changes to the Google document. I am still working on Mastery Tasks.

Though only touching into the knowledge of the field, Terry, thinking aloud, says, “This is not necromancy. It has to be some sort of sorcery.” Because of this decision, he elects to try to electrocute the armor, hoping it will have a greater effect at disrupting the animation. Wondering if severing the head might stop this monstrosity, Eitleog dances from side to side, moving his left sword like a breaking wave at the surf, aiming for the neck.

The armor begins to rise to a standing position, despite the fact that the wooden dowels reinforcing the silk armor are visibly broken where Coldtree had punched them. Kite takes one running stride toward the armor and leaps into the air a second time. His image shakes and becomes a blotched combination of browns, making it to difficult to recognize him. The armor reflexively blocks the incoming sword with its left arm, saving its head but taking severe damage to that arm. Spinning its torso, the armor counters the cut by punching with its handless left arm. Kite is knocked several strides through the air but rolls almost to a standing position as he collides with the floor.

Coldtree takes two running strikes and uncurls both arms forward with each fist clenched. Once extended, it sounds like he has struck a large bass drum. The moisture in the air condenses and expands in vertical ripples away from the point of contact. The armor visibly shakes and stumbles backward. Coldtree does not break any of the wood upon its chest, as even the punch is designed to move the opponent backward, causing internal damage, if it were a living creature.

Terrendale deliberately rolls his arms in opposing outward circles, thumbing another rock toward the armor at the completion. The rock streaks a visible bolt of lightning as it flies. The deductive reasoning of the psionicist is good. The monstrosity is twice as vulnerable to electrostatic manipulation than it is to thermal. The armor convulses like a person having a seizure before falling into pieces upon the floor. Coldtree and Kite are both winded, but neither is actually hurt, and both will recover in a matter of a few more seconds.

Eitleog stands with his weapons still at the ready as the armor collapses. He looks around to see if there is any other danger, sheathes one of his swords, and deliberately moves some other show pieces to see if anything else happens. If nothing does, he will put his other swords away. “Well, I am glad that thing is down. How powerful of a bender would it take to cause something like that?”

Terry walks over and kicks at the pieces, satisfying himself that they are down for good. He then unties the various pieces from their attachments and scatters them about the room. “I have a feeling that the trigger for that armor had been set in place far longer than the people have been gone from here. So far this venture is looking profitable for us, but the only market items I am seeing are plants and animals. Linstahl will be quite disappointed.”

As he continues to think on the subject, he adds, “There has to be more on this island to sustain a community or one would not have been here. I do not think resources dried up causing the people to leave, or this island would not be a mystery. I also think this constant mist is important.”

Cycle: 500: Day: 15. Season: Rebirth. (7 days until the ship returns)
Kite puts away his second sword as Coldtree satisfies his further curiousity about the room. Terrendale shrugged at the question and Kite shook his head. Neither had any idea how to begin investigating the mist, but both felt that it is unnatural. It is too consistent to be natural. The three find nothing else of importance within the palacial residentce and conclude that the guardian may have originally been created to protect its owner, but remained in place after his departure.

The bokken is far heavier than Terrendale expects, being of a denser wood than any with which he is already familiar. He could not effectively wield it, even with both hands, but that is not his reasoning for taking it. A few other random pieces are acquired before departing, but it seems disadvantageous to encumber oneselves by taking more at this time, and the three rest on all subjects, expecting to continue with further purpose in the morning.

The Verdant Garden is the second largest island of the archipelago. It is on the west side of the circle of islands, south of The Zoo, and has the greatest amount of vegetation. By estimate, the Short Straws, who have all traveled all islands, think the the misty isle is larger. For Verdant residents labor, agricultural goods, and some manufactured good, like fishtraps, are exchanged for other resources. The Garden boats are the smallest of the seaworthy vessels, being true katamarans. They are far faster than the larger ships, especially the behemoths of the Lighted Sentinel, but they sacrifice capacity. This is generally not an issue since the island’s specialty is plant material, which generally has little weight. The island is ruled by a man named Tetsukwai. It is rumored that he can teleport, but perhaps he is able to move more quickly than most people can follow.

In a dream shared by Coldtree, Kite, and Terrendale, Tetsukwai is seen stepping from his elevated porch of his own residence in the predawn light. He appears at harbor of his island and immediately begins instructing sailors to take two vessels to head for the newly discovered isle. “If a Sentinel ship is seen, stay clear and go no farther. I suspect that their Pacitors (shock troops) have taken out our vessels before. With their larger ships, I think that sociopath, Lindstahl, intends to break the long standing peace because he is greedy and foolish, and those ships can dominate the sea when farther from land. If you make the island, do not stay more than one day.”
