Shot on the Run

Manyshot rocks. Surprise rounds occur often in my games, tumbling away and shooting Manyshot is so much better than a single arrow (when the enemy comes charging).

5ft step back and full attack action as archer often results in dead archers.

Or how often do you get slowed?

Edit: greater manyshot is from the XPH, it allows sneak attack damage with every arrow and targeting of different creatures, IIRC.

I agree with the RAW, in this case. I don't see any reason to allow archers to jump out from behind cover, fire multiple arrows, then jump back behind cover and be completely protected. Spring Attack doesn't allow multiple attacks. Ride-By Attack doesn't allow multiple attacks. There's no reason why Shot On the Run should be any different.

Shot on the Run never did, and still never does, allow multiple attacks. It's Manyshot that might or might not allow multiple attacks.

Voila, a feat that allows multiple attacks with Spring Attack:

Well, yeah, if we're just making stuff up, I can produce a feat to allow multiple shots with Shot on the Run, too...

Made-Up Archery Feat [Fighter]
Prerequisites: Shot on the Run
Benefit: When using the Shot on the Run feat, you can make an extra attack with a ranged weapon.
Normal: You can't.

There're so many better archery feats out there; just about the only way to make effective use of Manyshot is Shot on the Run.

Given that the combination doesn't work, that's still not very effective use of Manyshot...

I guess you guys missed it when I said, way back in the first response on the thread: (BTW, Scharlata, you cut-and-pasted the wrong FAQ.)

Not missing, but hitting the same spot.
Not cut-and-pasted, but typed personally.
Not wrong, but backup.
:)

Kind regards

Wait ... are you saying that the Shot on the Run/Manyshot combo officially doesn't work?

Jeff

P.S. Shhhh. Nobody say anything. I'm curious as to how many times he'll repeat the same rule in one thread.

I'm just not sure how you can call it an effective use of the feat, when it's an illegal use of the feat...?

You're overlooking the "Rapid Shot On the Run" feat, that had exactly those game mechanics, included in the Compleat Book of Death Knights.

Yeah, but are you going to trust third-party publishers to produce balanced feats?

WotC's Complete Death Knight was generally far more sensible than the Compleat Book of Death Knights, when it came to mechanical issues.

Well, apart from that spiked-chain-of-doom feat.

That begs a question, Hyp. Have you ever bought and played with -- even recommend -- any third-party d20 products for your D&D game?

On-topic, I gotta agree that you cannot combine Manyshot with SotR.

Illegal?! Holy cow! Here I thought that the U.S. was turning into a police state, but y'all must have some bad-ass cops down in Kiwiburg!

"Freeze! Take your hands off the 20-sided die and return the miniature back to its starting position! Combining Manyshot and Shot on the Run will get you three months jail-time, gamer, if you get caught ... do you feel lucky today, punk?"

Why? Interpol? Meddling bastards.

Wait, are you guys trying to say that it's against the rules to combine Shot on the Run and Manyshot? Are you sure? Could you explain? (Or maybe, if there is too much, just sum up?)
