I really like the fact that since 4e PCs don't need to roll a confirmation roll for a critical hit. The rush of a natural 20 thus doesn't get smothered immediately if you can't confirm, which was not uncommon in 3e.
But it bothers me that monsters too don't need to confirm. I was wondering about house ruling that monsters/enemies need to confirm their critical hits. This makes the PCs heroic and special without being especially overpowered, and is helpful at the lower levels where a lucky crit from a monster can kill a martial type outright, which is wrong IMO (unless you are deliberately going for a Sword and Sorcery vibe where the PCs are nothing special. Kind of like Conan but PCs play the mooks who accompany Conan rather than Conan himself)
