Should movement be a skill? (integrating climb, jump..combo's)

If we're talking about how things should be, then movement and fighting ability also ought to be very closely connected, since footwork is key to (as far as I know) virtually every style of melee combat there is, and getting knocked prone is usually followed by death if the other guy knows what he's doing.

I'm not saying that every fighter should automatically excel at acrobatics and tightrope walking, but the idea of a master swordsman that has an iffy time making a DC 5 balance check for some paltry environmental hazard because of a -5 armor check penalty from his full plate is sort of idiotic, when you think about it.

Especially when you consider that, thanks to his high Str, he's actually as good as if not better than a skilled acrobat at staying on his feet when someone actively tries to trip him, because the balance skill and armor check penalty don't apply in that case.

If the fighter in this week's D&D article is any indication I think we may be seeing sturdier less trippable swordsmen in the near future.

Iron Heroes' Stunt System did a pretty good job tying stunts and movement to attack. A similar system might well be something you can drop into the new edition.

Especially considering that all character's are going to be on the same progression.

I'd rather leave Run a feat and let someone with the feat 'Spur themselves', sacrificing HP for bonus movement [see ride skill]

I like that idea. Useful and it seems balanced. Have you ever tried it out in one of your campaigns?
