I noticed there's already some isolated discussion about whether or not there should be pregenerated characters in the upcoming 3.5 revision of the original Dragonlance modules. So let's have a vote. Do you think Sovereign Press should include pregenerated Heroes of the Lance PC's (Caramon, Tanis, Tasslehoff, etc.) in the new modules? Or something else?

Yes.

As a fan of both the original novels and the various incarnations of the "Dragonlance" game setting, from AD&D1 through D&D3.5, I agree that pregenerated Heroes of the Lance should be included in Sovereign Press' new books. It would be great to see the classic characters statted out using the latest D&D rules, but I also agree that it would be nice to have new monsters, Player Character options, and even plot surprises in such books as well. The P.C.s from the novels are good enough to serve as pregens (I hope that fellow Game Masters aren't too slavish in their devotion to re-enacting the stories), but new P.C.s should also be able to undertake the quest...

Have the characters appeared in any othe rDL product for 3.x?? I don't have mnay of the products so I don't know if they have been printed in a product yet. If they have, then we don't need them in the modules. IF they have not then put them it.

The Heroes of the Lance, after Xak Tsaroth, appear statted out in Sovereign Press' War of the Lance hardcover released last year at Gencon (an excellent book by the way).

The versions which will appear in the forthcoming module Dragons of Autumn, will be those characters as Dragons of Aumtum (ie.DL1) begins, not after Xak Tsaroth.

There is going to be complaining either way over this, but I don't have any doubt that Jamie Chambers is going to include them. He's already said he will.

My one concern is the stated intention of Sovereign Press to include material in the Silver Anniversary edition of DragonLance in the new 3.5 versions of the modules.

The only reasons they would do this is to make it easier for the novels to be re-created. That was what the Silver Anniversary version of the modules brought to the table.

I think this is tragically wrong headed and the certain, exact and precisely WRONG way to run a classic War of the Lance campaign. But, there are a lot of DragonLance fans who are all about the novels. They were novel fans first, gamers second, and they want this - so it's what they are going to get.

I think they should include the pregens of the Heroes. As someone mentioned in another thread, just make sure that it is clear you don't *have* to use the pregens and it is perfectly acceptable to run your own characters through the module. In either case, the product looks great at initial glance and I will be picking this up (and this from an FR fan....)

The easiest way to make this clear, I think, is to stick 'em in an appendix of some kind. It emphasizes that they're separate from the real meat of the book.

I voted for including just the Heros of the Lance novel characters....

....thinking that they could also put in a lengthy description of what a party should consist of, and what kind of equipment they should start out with, if they are going to bring in new characters.

Now that my itchy click-finger has cooled off, and I sit here pondering it, I think I voted too hastily, and they should include both the classic heros, and a new set of pre-generated characters. Why not make it easy to jump right in, but with a fresh perspective ?

You also hate steel pieces, dude, so... well. :)
