The Shaman

I bought OGL WW after my S:R campaign ended, but (1) if I was starting from scratch I would still use S:R as my main rules system and (2) there are a few things I would include from OGL WW, such as the horse quality rules.Samurai said:I was looking to buy a wild west d20 game, and it came down to OGL Wild West and Sidewinder Recoiled. I ended up going with Sidewinder, though both games looked fairly similar (both based on d20 modern, similar kinds of feats, etc). Sounds like I made a good choice, but can anyone who has both books tell me if they are as repetitive as they look? Or is there enough new stuff in OGL WW that it's worth getting both?
Part of my preference for S:R comes from the fact that it stays closer to the core d20 Modern rules than OGL WW, so that puts it squarely in my comfort zone as a GM. I believe that the Old West character archetypes AdCs in S:R are better designed and more thoroughly covered than in OGL WW, at least on read-thru - as a GM I tend to create fairly elaborate NPCs, and I find that the approach taken in S:R makes that pretty easy to do.
As a Western gaming afficionado who still has his 20+ year-old 2e Boot Hill box set and campaign notes, I'm glad I bought both books - I can definitely see using OGL WW in support of my next S:R game.
