Sidewinder: Recoiled - anyone playing it?

I was looking to buy a wild west d20 game, and it came down to OGL Wild West and Sidewinder Recoiled. I ended up going with Sidewinder, though both games looked fairly similar (both based on d20 modern, similar kinds of feats, etc). Sounds like I made a good choice, but can anyone who has both books tell me if they are as repetitive as they look? Or is there enough new stuff in OGL WW that it's worth getting both?
I bought OGL WW after my S:R campaign ended, but (1) if I was starting from scratch I would still use S:R as my main rules system and (2) there are a few things I would include from OGL WW, such as the horse quality rules.

Part of my preference for S:R comes from the fact that it stays closer to the core d20 Modern rules than OGL WW, so that puts it squarely in my comfort zone as a GM. I believe that the Old West character archetypes AdCs in S:R are better designed and more thoroughly covered than in OGL WW, at least on read-thru - as a GM I tend to create fairly elaborate NPCs, and I find that the approach taken in S:R makes that pretty easy to do.

As a Western gaming afficionado who still has his 20+ year-old 2e Boot Hill box set and campaign notes, I'm glad I bought both books - I can definitely see using OGL WW in support of my next S:R game.

What are people's thoughts on the Fort Griffon supplemtns? I've found them to be pretty good but have not actually had a chance to play.

I bought my copy of Sidewinder: Recoiled to build an alternate reality that my Sliders/Tangents group would be visiting quite often. I must say that having read completely through it that it is quite impressive, and like others have said, I love it.

I'm actually considering using it to start up a solely western campaign, however I'd like to get OGL Wild West for comparison and try to brew up something unique.

I've also considering doing an alternate S:R game where magic is commonplace, but don't want it to be anything like Deadlands. I don't want any undead or magically infused walking automatons. It's also given me thought into doing an alien type western game (think Sixguns & Sesheyans).

I just bought this book, based on your recommendation and the preview available at RPG Now. Make sure you include me if you decide to run a game here on EN World. :)

I have been interested in playing a "Wild West" style campaign for a couple years now.

I've thought about bringing my tabletop S:R game on-line, but now that Wing and Sword is up and running, my next project is to finish my "truckers-in-Siberia" near-Future game, and then my next campaign for my tabletop group, Africa Incognita, after d20 Past is released.

So many games - so little time... :\

Boot Hill was long my favorite roleplaying game ('til d20 Modern) - it's a shame the genre isn't more popular.

I hope you like S:R. Be sure to check out the Dog House Rules website - the designers are great about answering questions, &c.

This product is awesome. The quality is very good, the classes are great, and the editing looks really solid after a quick glance through the book.

Anyone feel like running a campaign here on EN World? :heh:

I might. I loved playing Boot Hill and Deadlands. And I would love to do a true western game. I don't think me PBP plate is full just yet. Give me some time to think it over. :)

Awesome. I'm in like Flynn. Or Earp. Or Doc Holiday. Whatever.
