Siege weapon damage question

Alzrius

The EN World kitten
Heroes of Battle, page 65, says that creatures in the space that a catapult fires on may make a Reflex save (DC 15) to avoid the damage altogether if the catapult is firing a stone (half damage if it is firing shot ammunition). However, the quick-reference charts for the mangonels (page 66) and the trebuchets (page 67) says it's a DC 15 Reflex save for half, and doesn't discriminate that based on the type of ammunition fired.

I suppose that by the "primary source" rule, the quick-reference charts are in error, but the idea of half damage seems more correct. Any rulings on this?

According to the DMG (pg. 100), you use the Reflex save for half damage and there's no variation due to ammunition.

Yes, but Heroes of Battle says (page 63) "...the information in this chapter augments and supercedes the information in the Dungeon Master's Guide."

Exactly Alzrius. For heroes of battle they decided to change it for better or for worse, but neglected to tell the table designers of the change.
