Sigh..here we go again...

D&D might've seemed threatening when it was being played by teenagers in the early to mid 1980s, but now it's just a bunch of lawyers and engineers and Vin Diesel playing D&D, while the young people are corrupted by new stuff like I-pods and the Intraweb.
While there are lawyers and engineers (Danny's a (music) lawyer - I'm an (sound) engineer) the teens are still playing - I have three in my group, 1 - 17, and 2 - 13,. (but I digress)

Danny's right on about being outside of the norm. If a collector of say - Transformers toys suddenly ran someone over with a car that had an autobot or decepticon symbol on it, that would be an angle played by either the media or the defense attorney to spice up the story or give the accused an "out" with the jury. Obsession is a popular scapegoat in legal circles, always has been, and anything that is a little out of the ordinary, draws strong and quick criticism as it is "obviously" the cause of the problem. /This generealization is just that, please don't read too deep into it./

Heh- you're not far from wrong!

A few years ago (shortly after passing the bar), I was at a party at the modest manse of one Ron Kirk, former mayor of Dallas, and a prominent black attorney. If someone had bombed the place, they'd have wiped out every black attorney and judge in the D/FW Metroplex.

While there, I was listening to the stories of those who came before me, including one judge who said (paraphrasing) that he was starting to hear a case against this old white Texan who walked into the court, saw him on the bench in his robes, and yelled:

"G-D D--N! When did they start lettin' N-----S be judges?"

The judge in question quickly slammed his gavel, called for order and swiveled his chair around so he was facing the state seal- away from the lawyers and jury members- so they couldn't see him laughing (silently!) so hard he had tears in his eyes.

Ah, Texas!
I deal with people daily like that, living near Corpus. I pride myself in being a non racist Texan :P (not trying to insult anyone, but alot of people I know are)

This reminds me of a kid that killed his uncle that goes to my school....maybe I should ask him to join my DnD game.

Still...30 is a bit old for one's first psychotic break (if that is what actually happened). My understanding is that they usually happen in their victims' teens or early twenties.
The Mean age of onset for Schizophrenia is 25. So while 30 is on the up side to have your first psychotic episode at 30 isn’t THAT rare.

Also don’t discount drug induced psychosis.

But it is sad to see someone’s hobby being blamed for their behaviour.
