They forgot to balance them.
I'm with the "Blindsight is to sound as Darkness is to light" crew. Now, Blindsight for other creatures (Dragons, for example) might be based on scent, psionics, whatever. The Blindsight spell is seismic if I recall correctly (you feel vibrations through the ground). But you were asking about an explicitly sound-based effect.
