Silence on PC's worn equipment? Need rule fast!

Ok folks i got a game in 2 hrs and i need a quick ruling.

I have a cleric who casts silence on the enemies boots. He justifies this as since it's not magical or castin it on the enemy they don't get a save.

I view this as casting it on the individual and the clothes and items are still part of his persona and therefore he gets a save.

Questions, comments, rulings?

TIA!

Anything equiped on the character gets a save. Now if he casts it on the boots when they are not being worn and then the personb puts them on, that's fine.

Yeah, give him a save!

I can do it without a save, not without a roll, tho, being an Arcane Trickster with Khelben's Suspended Silence, I can use Ranged Legerdemain to plant (pick pocket) a silence radiating item to the enemy! That's fun! :D

The spell description itself on page 252 of the PH says that the worn boots (items in a creature's possession) receive a saving throw. Your player is incorrect. Here is the relevant quote.
Item's in a creature's possession or magic items that emit sound receive saves and SR, but unattended objects and points in space do not.

And just in case your player doesn't accept the 'the guys at ENWorld all agreed' argument, try reading the spell description:

The spell can be centered on a creature, and the effect then radiates from the creature and moves as it moves. An unwilling creature can attempt a Will save to negate the spell and can use SR, if any. Items in a creatures possession or magic items that emit sound receive saves and SR, and unattended objects and points in space do not.

Note that this is just a re-statement of the standard rule on spells with (Object) in the Saving Throw field (PH pg. 150) (with the apparent addendum that unattended magic items that do not emit sound apparently get no save against this spell):

Object: The spell can be cast on objects, which receive saving throws only if they are magical or if they are attended (held, worn, grasped, etc.) by a creature resisting the spell, in which case the object gets the creature's saving throw bonus unless its own bonus is greater.

Uh-oh. Don't let KarinsDad see that. :D
That's funny. :D

I have enjoyed that debate between you two. Very entertaining and thought provoking. I have always done it your way, but I do find KarinsDad's arguments interesting. Keep it up. I need some closure. :D

We can't. The thread got locked when a flame war broke out.

If th eitem is on their person or otherwise "directly in tehir personal keeping" (held in hand, worn, inside a POCKET of somethign held in their hand or worn, and so on), then they do indeed get a save.

If it's just a CHAIR they happen to eb sitting on, I suppose that would be different.

But one's clothes are, magickally speaking, pretty much treated as an extension of your SKIN -- that's why touch attacks don
t need to find bare skin, hence, worn armor bonusses don't help against touch attacks.
