Simulacrum PC

Hello. Sorry to oduble post and all, but I was told this might be a better place to find answers.

I'll be playing in an Ebberon campaign. My character will be a simulacrum of a person that died. (It involved casting the spell from a scroll and the planes aligning or some such stuff.). We've decided that her appearance never physically changes and if she gets "killed" then she's gone for good. I was looking for any other pros or cons to such a creature.

Someone suggested i might find answers here if I could just be poked in the right direction.

Since you're a construct, possibly made of so much ice, healing would be a special case.

There might also be serious limitations on your ability to learn new things beyond the experience of your original. Not all simulacrums have the same limitations or were created the same way.

May I suggest you'd have more fun, with basically the same idea if you were possessed by the departed rather than a construct. You'd heal normally, you might keep your old personality around for interest sake and your ressurection, if required, could be as wierd and strange as you wish.

A simulacrum is not technically a construct, it's a spell. One could argue that it is not a creature at all.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

1. A simulacrum cannot learn and grow; thus it never gains xp.

2. One good dispel magic and you're done for.

I've used 3.0 multi-empowered simulacra extensively in my campaign. They're awesome. If you're interested, I could post a link.

The 3.5 version of Simulacrum is an Instantaneous spell, and Dispel Magic doesn't apply...

But a reading of the mechanics basically means you're kinda warmed over roadkill after a while - no advancement, no cheap healing (although, you can heal up as much as you like for 100 gp per point of HP.... if you have a fully equipped magical laboratory.... and 24 hours.....), destroyed at 0 hp rather than disabled and/or dying....

The DM is going to allow my character to gain xp and levels, because she is something of a unique being. There could possibly be people trying to figure out how to duplicate the unique circumstances that brought her into being. If weird things could happen anywhere then I think Ebberon would be the place. Though if it seems that things will get too complicated for the DM and the other players; then I'll play something else. Like the possessed option for example.

People are dodging around the situation for this player. Yes Simulacrum is a spell but the product of the spell has to have defining characteristics, not just the casting of the spell which doesn't say enough.

A simulacrum is a spell created wotzit. The nature of that Wotzit is what the poster is asking about. You evade his question if you focus on the point of creation not the created.

For what its worth Mongoose has a great section on Simulacrums, both normal and improved in MGP1004 Encyclopedia Arcane Guide to Constructs. They have a design for a simulacrum that can learn and improve itself.

Good luck

Her question. ;) I have a bosom, though it is a somewhat humble one, and the ability to birth babies. :p

But in all seriouness. I will check that book out. I just need to find someone that owns it, because I'm too poor to buy it right now.

The more 'special' you make this Simulacrum of yours the better the game will work. If it was just as the base spell and nothing extra, then I wouldn't let it be a PC. If it was accidentaly infused with 'stuf' or was created by doing 'this' then it becomes much more playable. Add more interesting background details.

A must fix is healing issues. A kind of snowy regeneration would be good, just like natural healing mechanics wise, but haveing a slice in your body with only ice where flesh should be is interesting. Theres no way you'll last if you need the normal repairs.

You say youv'e already agreed on XP and levels, so thats good.

Remeber that a Simulacrum doesn't have its own soul or spirit, this could effect things. Perhaps due to being unique you would actually have a faint trace of the real characters soul, and could have a very interesting personal story of trying to find it or build your own somehow. Almost a kind of pinochio story.

Also dying; I don't know whether the dead at 0 thing shold stay or not, but the threat of a total death and no promise of an afterlife would be another cool part of the 'find a soul' plot. Trying to find it before something happens and you're lost forever.

I don't know whether Simulacrums need sleep or not.

I love the idea. Im definetly going to rember this for latter use. Hope it goes well.
