Since class books seem to be the flavor of the week...

Which class books are worth it?

Right now I own the WotC class splats, as well as MoF. I generally thought they were all pretty good, particularly MoF, but I find that in actual play, I haven't felt too inspired to use them. I'm playing a cleric in on campaign and a barbarian in another. None of the PrCs in these books have really interested me.

So, what do people think about other companies' material? The reviews of Mongoose's Quintessential series seem to be pretty mixed, and I haven't seen many reviews of the FFG Path hardbacks. How do they stack up? Other products you would reccomend?

For the most consistant I think the Path books are the best. But some Quint books are really good. And the Heroes of High Favor books are solid as well.

Path of the Warrior is one of the best class-based books I've ever seen. I haven't bought any of the other books from the Path series although I'm eager to take a look at Path of Shadows.

The Quint books from Mongoose don't do anything for me.

I recommend Hammer & Helm from Green Ronin Publishing - part of their d20 Races of Renown series. I'm not that interested in their d20 Master Class series of books, however, but others swear by 'em.

Masters of the Wild, Defenders of the Faith, and Sword and Fist seem to get the most use in my group.

Edit: I figured it would be obvious that the Heroes of High Favor books get used and abused by us as well, but then figured it was worth saying.

It depends on what you are looking for in the books... are you looking for anything in specific to help?

I'm always looking for more stuff to buy. :)

Anyway... no, I'm not really looking for anything specific; I just wanted to hear poeple's general impressions.

I am a firm believer in the Path series by FFG and consider them to be the best classbooks out there next to WotC's own. Plus, the art in those books is awesome.

The Quintessential books are really hit and miss, some are very good while others are either not very usefull or overpowering. I will, however, be purchasing Quintessential Bard because of the general lack of stuff out there for that class compared to others.

I have yet to take a good look at the various GR Master Class series so I can't comment, but I found their Assassin class to be on the overpowered side. Mostly because of their Death Blow ability.

I have the WotC splatbooks, and I am buying all the FFG Path books as well. Even if I don't have used the path books yet, they give many ideas I can use, and their presentation of prestige classes and legendary classes beats, imho, WotC's splatbook and epic level handbook.
