Since We All Hopefully Picked Up Elements of Magic (Revised)...

First off, I must say again thanks for the Leap Day Freebies from ENWorld. But one of them caught my eye in a huge way.

Elements of Magic: Revised. Quite possibly one of the most fun little books for Non-Vancian magic with Ryan Nock/Rangerwickett at the helm. Now, as a fan of anyone willing to promote himself as Warwick Davis's third best character I have to give props, but this gives me a chance to ask the community's opinion on the product.

Yes, I know what you're thinking (as summed up by this little clip)...

But I do want to discuss it. What have been your experiences with the work? Did you ever try using Mythic Earth? Have you taken on any ideas involving Traditions, or similar methods, into account when doing your campaign?

I hope I have a few people who may be able to speak on this, as I have some desire to see if my own experiences match up with those brave enough to try it out.

Slainte,

Several of my players have incorporated elements of this into their sets. I'm missing the specifics right now though.

Considering almost all my groups kicked vancian out of the window, it fits right in.

See I loved Mythic Earth and just wondered how Revised's new spell types have been put to use. Some of the other sources and writeups are great and I would love to see how the new Naval rules go from Ryan.

Well, there is a mageknight and a taskmage (who both started out as normal wizards and then found their calling, so to say). In this game, we have used signature spells from the beginning. Still need to learn spells individually but once you know one, the others from the same list are easier to understand.

I am a huge fan of Elements of Magic, love the system and have been tinkering with adapting it to 4e... I guess I will have to tinker for 5e now!

To me it made wizards into dangerous, unpredictable creatures. You never knew what the guy wriggling his fingers was up to! I also love the ritual rules which allows a mechanical reason for being able interrupt the big bad guy in the middle of taking over the world.

Not to long ago, I used the system in a session of 4e War of the Burning Sky to represent the power of the Obelisk. I had alot of fun with it, as did the players.

I had more issues getting Mythic Earth to work, but I think that was more my gaming group and my fascination with Elements: Revised :)

And yes, I to am a fan of the planned naval supplement and have already kicked in for the kickstart!
