Size changes

Ok guys, here's the question:

I know the table in MM1 for size changes. Yet in the book, they mostly seem to use half of these adjustments (IMHO a lot more balanced).

I am just thinking about it since my groups druid has an advanced wolf as animal companion who will be large soon... +8 to strength and +4 to tripping nonetheless due to size change is a bit much for me...

Do you use the table?

Animal companions don't get XP, as far as I can tell. If you want a tougher companion, you have to let your old one go and find a new one. Even the rules in Savage Species for advancing a monster only apply up to the monster's listed HD. If you want more, you have to pick up a character class.

There are rules in Masters of the Wild for advancing animal companions HD. You expend character XP.
