Skill Based Class

I'm planning on making a Skill Based class for my campaign.
It's basically oriented in the ancient Egypt and the class will be some sort of wandering scribe.
I want it to have access to a lot of languages and knowledge domains (which are very used and useful in my campaigns) but I also plan to make it interesting enough for players to take it, not just an Expert rip off.

I have alredy added to this campaign the Noble class, from the SW with some "tweaks" and now I want something different (not necessarilly noble but educated)

The thing is I don't know what to give to this character when he progresses. I thought of something along the lines of Skill Emphasis from the SW and gaining new languages with levels, maybe the Bard Knowledge ability, 6 or 8 skills per level + int and lots of useful skills... But it seems that it will be "not a very good choice" for a character class, and I want to stay away of the sneak attack damage or the bard music thingys...
Any ideas?
Any class you know?
Any help?
Please?

[Edit: Sorry I just realised this may be House Rules, I dont know if it's Rules since I am asking for existing classes, or House since I am asking for help on a new class, Mods please feel free to put it wherever you think it's better...]

Well, many skill points (go with 8+ !) and a big list of class skills (knowledge (all) is a must-have there, and Speak Language) is a starting point. Also, you can give it a bard-like knowledge ability (call it "Lore" or something), and the obvious abilities: Skill Mastery, bonus feats (skill focus, all "+2 on x and y" feats, Versatile, which makes a cross-class skill class skill).

Then, you could create special abilities (I may use explanations from other game worlds, you might want to tailor them to your setting)
  • Improved Skill Mastery, which decreases the time a "take 20" takes
  • Improved Skill Use, which allows you to change the key ability score of a a number of skills you have Skill Mastery in
  • Item Lore, which lets you make a Lore or Knowledge Check to identify a magic Item.

I want to play this sucker!
Making Speak Languages a class skill, then have say 10 skill points...
If you get a 15 in int...
48 skp at first level= know every language know to the multiverse
Then on= Be the most famdoozling disable device/pick pocket/handle animal/pick lock/swim/anything around.

Who needs a base attack bonus? Not me!

Now, just get a way to convert skill points to magic...
Oh, that's called use magic device!

This sounds like potentially a variation on the expert. You might see if such have been posted in House Rules (a lot of tedious paging, if you don't have search, I know). There was an interesting PC-level expert posted in rec.games.frp.dnd recently; you could find it at groups.google.com by doing a search on "pc expert issachar44".
