I'm just wondering, could someone with an insider subscription tell me what the "Skill Challenge article was about? Especially if it was good or not?

I read it a while ago and can't quite remember the contents - I've been digesting a lot of other D&D books lately.

What I can tell you though, is that it is the first part of the article. You have to wait a whole month to get the second half of the article. I find that to be a poor implementation of that article. Generally, I am a big supporter of both Dungeon & Dragon but to split this kind of info into a 2 part article spread out over 2 magazine is definately a bad choice IMHO. The article would have been far stronger with the entire content in this one.

It was a set of guidelines for creating skill challenges, and some comparisons between challenges and fights. The second half is supposed to be an example of the guidelines in work.

I agree that it was a poor way to do it. IMO they should have made it a single large article for Dragon.

Like anything and everything written about skill challenges from WotC to Keith Baker to Mike Mearls to whoever wrote this one article, it sounds really nice when you first read it, feels a bit iffy when you first try to put it into practice, and leaves you soundly disappointed and a bit annoyed once you've properly digested it. Par for the course really :)

I'll admit that I haven't gotten skill challenges to work in play like I see them in my head. Maybe one of the WotC podcasts sometime soon can be an example in actual play. I'd love to see what a SC done by mearls is actually like in play.

That's a really good idea, actually.
