SL War Colleges question

Is there any more info on the Ghelspad war colleges - like the specific game benifits that they grant - other then that found in the ghelspad HC book?

Yes. They're gone into a bit more in the Scarred Lands Player's Guide to Fighters and Barbarians. I think the only major one of them, though, that has a prestige class, is the school that teaches the use of the spiked chain.

hmmm . . . not a book I have had the funds to aquire yet . is the format for the school info any different then the fighting styles in the quintessential fighter? or is it primarily PrC driven?

It's a little different from Quint Fighter. At least two of the major schools have Pr-classes associated with them. Mostly they offer only favored feats and that's about it. Don't believe there's much else.

All right, haven't read the Quintessential Fighter, but here's essentially how it works in the Scarred Lands Fighters and Barbarians Guide.

There's about 3-4 pages that detail the major schools of Clayborn, Hammerdale, Plague, Glamerhill and Wake. Each takes up about half a page. Following that are about 3-5 pages on a number of minor schools, such as the Sisterhood of the Scythe and the Warriors of White Fire. Each of their descriptions also takes up roughly half a page.

Each description goes a little into the history, where there schools and the like are, notable traits they possess - colors, way they keep their hair, etc, as well as their fighting style. It also mentions favored feats for each group.

Of those, none of the major schools have a prestige class associated with them. For that matter, not even the Sisterhood of the Scythe does. The only schools with associated prestige classes are those that were written up for the Fighters and Barbarians guide.

There's also a number of new feats, but none of them are school-specific only.

So, essentially, the Fighter and Barbarian guide offers up 3-4 more pages on what the Scarred Lands hardcover gave us. There's also a few other tidbits scattered here and there, so it probably ups the page count a little, but there's not much more on them. It does go into other things, though, like mercenaries, barbarian tribes, etc, but when it just comes to the war colleges, there's just a wee bit more info in the book.

This is a topic that would seem to cry out for its own published work and would be a signifigant recource guide for building npc's and player adversaries.
It would also be nice to have all relivent info an the schools, thier fighting thechniques and what tangible game benitis and penaltys they grant in 1 location as well as several prefered or specialized PrC's that those trained in the war colleges would advance into. anybody know if we will ever see anymore along this line? :\

Trick,

My bad. I was thinking of the minor colleges and those not quite full fledged ones. The Order of the Iron Winds, the Seven Stings Tails and I also believe the Order has one as well.

To clarify, the Quint Fighter talks about specialized training similiar to what is found in the technique feats in Complete Warrior by WotC.

My Scribe,

Well maybe they will. I don't know if it will happen but it's a possibility.

Eh, doesn't seem necessary. If a Darakeene book comes out, I'm sure the War Colleges will be brushed up on a little bit more, but other then that...not particularly necessary in my opinion.

A lot of those benefits and what not are simply the sort of feats and the like they train in; after all, most folk who don't truly focus on learning the art of war simply end up being Warriors as opposed to Fighters. The War Colleges are such a minor part of the setting, though, that I think giving them their own book outside of the Fighters and Barbarians guide would be really pushing it. I wouldn't be too much interested in that.

Trick,

That maybe so, but it's just an idea. Even so I do think a Darakenee sourcebook (along with a few more) might need to be scoped out in the near future. Darakeene would be high on my list, followed by Vesh, Durrover, and the Bridged City.
