Looking for some substance that would knock out a spell caster for 8 hours or so at a time... an herbal sedative or something like that...

I don't think that she wants to knock herself out. I believe that it's for a captive.F5 said:How about poisons? Unconsciousness only lasts a few hours, but since there's no actual damage done, you could just re-apply to keep the spellcaster out for the full duration.
If you're trying to put yourself out, you could voluntarily fail the fort save. And have your familiar re-apply as necessary.
at 90gp a pop, it could get pretty expensive over the long-term, though. You'd need at least 8 doses to make sure you got through the night, (720gp), and that's just one night.
How about Suggestion? Duration of 1 hour/level, target "One Living Creature". It doesn't specifically say that you can't target yourself, and voluntarily fail the will save.
